Hi All,

I bought a GTR1400 new in April this year, I now have 3800 miles on the clock and my both front discs have scored badly and my pads are nearly worn through, as most of my miles are motorway I approached the dealer about the issue and was told that it's wear and tear has anyone else had the same issue?

Cheers,

Gary

Wear and tear my  :asshole: !!

Unless you had something lodged between your disc and pads ( which is highly unlikely as you state both discs are scored ), your dealer is pulling the wool over your eyes.

Not normal, take it back and insist they replace both discs as well as pads.

i agree, discs and pads should not be worn out at 3800m,I had my discs and pads changed under warranty for brake vibration with 9k on the clock and the pads were only 40% worn and the discs were not marked. I think your dealer is taking the piss!. I would inform him that you are going to inform Kawasaki about his aproach to your problen and then take your bike to a different dealer, one that cares.  H

As above, i had disks and pads changed at 3000 miles under warranty with no worries whatsoever, ever since then i have once a month removed the pads and cleaned everything i could find, copper slip the rear of the pads, and make sure your "floating disk" is actually floating by ensuring the little round button things rotate freely between the disk and the inner housing.

Stand in his showroom and make yourself heard, that's crazy miles for stuff to go wrong, its a tourer not a sprint bike.

Your dealer is telling you porkies.

Mine were about 30000 miles before they needed changing, and that was down to the dreaded warping issue

Agree with comments above,  don't be fobbed of by your dealer the  Sale Of Goods act is clear "goods must be fit for purpose" and your mileage and time from new would suggest discs and pads should be changed under warranty. Go back be polite but firm and explain that you are unhappy and expect to have faulty parts changed under warranty. I would also contact Kawasaki UK with your concerns if dealer is not forthcoming. Good Luck and let us know how you get on? Ps also check your rear disc and pads
Ah Well you only live once! Although still have trouble convincing the wife lol

O.C.

:agree: with all the above..anyway Kawasaki UK know about the disc 'problem' so tell you dealer that you want discs and pads changed under warranty

Gary, hi & welcome to the forum. Firstly let me put things into perspective, new OEM discs are about £600-£700 with replacement pads being somewhere in the region of £80 approx. Is your dealer honestly trying to say that every 4000 miles in addition to the standard servicing costs you will have to pay the best part of £1000 just to keep the bike safe and legal.  :mfr_lol:

Give Kawasaki UK a call if your dealer continues to be awkward.

whats the name of this Kawasaki dealer, remind me never to use them if im back in the UK...

viper

whats the name of the dealer, maybe we can all email them and state our disapointment with their service and theya are on our bad dealer list

dokterdave

Don't be fooled by pad thickness.
There's not much meat on them from new anyway.

pistole

- almost 19,000 miles (approx 30,000 kms) on stock discs and pads.

- no issues at all. Just keep the front discs' bobbins turning & clean.

- this bike has amazingly good brakes.

Thanks for all your replies, I will name the dealer if they don'tcome through with the goods soon!

I contacted Kawasaki Uk and Simon Chitty called back to say he has spoken to dealer and the official answer is fair wear and tear! I have asked if they can email this to me so I can keep as a record (will let you all know if this happens). K Uk say my bike is due a brake service at 4000 miles sorry inspection so I have to book it into dealer. Why oh why did I pay for an extended warranty!!!

Well i still say that's bollocks, i have dealt with Simon Chitty and usually he is ok, i suggest you send him these messages on the forum and ask him to comment.

I have 10500 miles and no signs of the wear you have.
