The bike had new front discs fitted yesterday, I dont know if they have been updated from original, as I dont know that part number, but the new discs carry the part number       41080-0570-5C. The mechanic said he thought they were an updated part.

Geoff, how many miles had your bike done? What were the symptoms?

Steve, the bike has done 12,500 miles. A strange one this because as you know the bike has linked brakes, so after a life time of using the front brake slightly before the rear, after the GTR came along with the front lever working all the brakes, I decided to change the practice of a life time and just use the front lever for 99% of situations, saving just the rear pedal for the very rare occasion on a very tight hairpin type turn just to drag the bike down and around the corner. But to answer the question regarding symptoms, when just using the front brake lever it was perfect, but when using just the rear I had a knocking from the front.    Now for the conundrum, when the old discs and pads were inspected they were both in perfect condition, no marks, no warping (I always raised an eyebrow at this)      So,    I am no mechanic,    But,   I think the problem/or not, is that we are being kidded into thinking something is wrong (certainly with my bikes symptoms) when in fact we are experiencing just a foible of the bikes set-up. The ABS does not work when you are travelling at under 12MPH, and after tests in the workshop, the linking system doesn't either, so my low speed rear braking noise could just be that at the critical 12MPH figure there is just a hiccup when the ABS brain is slightly confused and this phenomena occures. As I say thats just what I think, and I must say that the brakes have always been fine, as regards stopping the bike. When I sat down with the mechanic from Motorcycle centre Orrell, and explained my theory, he thought for a moment then said "Maybe",

O.C.

Interesting Geoff, that's a theory that hasn't been explored before (as far as I know)

BTW how often are you travelling at less than 12mph  :mfr_lol:
BE KIND...

ROG .

I've never seen him riding at less than 12mph.  :mfr_lol:

must admit after hearing there's as been quite a few front discs being replaced after very little mileage is a concearn. I was under the impression the 2010 onwards model had upgraded discs and pads.
getting on now...  but not as old as Rog or Geoff

Hi,my new discs were fitted at 3700 miles. The symptoms were pulsing of the lever, and a grabbing of the front on initial application. The new discs were different to the ones removed,as they had bigger cooling slots, and a different spacing of the slots. We,ll see how long these last.Didn,t have to push too hard to get this work done.I,m in the throughs of getting the rear damper/shock sorted,as the pre-load adjuster has seized. To be continued..........

New front discs at 35,000 miles.  I thought that was a bit soon, but 12,500!

Well mine now has new front discs.
Bought some cheap Arashi discs from Fleabay.

Fitted with new EBC HH pads.
Seem to work fine and look good.
Had to put 2 small washers between the front ABS sensor and the forks as it was catching on the ABS ring.
I guess the disc carrier is a bit thicker than the OEM ones.
49,401 miles on the originals which were down to 4.1mm and 4.2mm respectively.

Boomer,

Resurrecting an old thread, but wondered how you are getting on with these Arashis on your bike now you have had them a while?

I just fitted some last night, I did not want to risk my OEMs any more as they were down to 3.95mm. First thoughts are they look great, they seem very well made, but slightly concerned about how the pads will wear. The wavy edge cut outs are much larger than OEM, and the slots in the pad sweep area are very sharp edged, not radiused.

Had to do the same as you, and shim the ABS sensor out by a mm, but impressed so far for £127 to my door.

Martin.
65,000 miles now. Loving this bike.

Boomer

Well I have about 4000 miles on them now and they are doing fine.
Those sharp edges you mentioned never wore smooth and for a little while I thought I had warped a disk but a few minutes with a dremel and a grinding bit smoothed them out and the low speed vibes went away. Pads wise I can't comment as nowhere near enough mileage yet.
I fitted new EBC HH pads when I fitted the disks.
Have done several practice emergency stops and one for real and the ABS worked perfectly every time.
Stopping power is identical to the OEM disks & pads.
I managed 25k from the OEM pads, 22k from a set of EBC HHs all against the original disks.
So, I'm expecting 22k from these pads.
