I am not the most 'techy' of peopel with computers etc, and am sure there is a lot for me to learn about getting the best out of my 660

There is a zumo user forum here
http://www.zumoforums.com/
which no doubt has all the answers to any question you can think of regarding getting the most from you sat-nav

One tip I have learned already, when using basecamp. An easy way to begin using custom routes is to plot start and finish points, calculate the route, then bend the route to include places you want to vist or go via.

Quote) Switch from motorcycle mode to autmobile mode (there is an icon at top centre of the start up screen) - automobile mode will tend to stick to main roads ie motorways, dual carriagteways, A roads etc rather motorcycle mode which will take you down the more country/twisty motorcyling type roads.

I'm afraid I don't agree... As I said earlier, I had mine in car mode and it took me through the centre of Milan....

I think the different modes are just a change of display and saves custom settings such as avoidances and such.

My 550 does the same sometimes.
One time it led me straight into Brussels even though I wanted to go from Zeebrugge to Luxembourg.
And believe me that is not the fastest way!  :nono:
And last month when I was near Reims it got totally lost and wanted to direct me onto roads that didn't exist.
There seemed to be a hole in the map because the display was nowhere near to the real world.
Once I moved on the display started to match the road I was on again, though.
So I think it's not so much the device but dodgy maps.   :embarrassed:
The later you brake the longer you go fast.

Good service from Touratech, the part was ordered on the 8th & delivered on the 9th. Only just collected it from the Post Office today as we've been away. I just need to get the bike booked in now so I can get the shade fitted to the Zumo.

I tried changing from bike mode to car mode and it definately made a difference.  I asked it too take me from Peterborough to Channel tunnel and in the biker mode it took me through the centre of London, i then changed it too the car mode and asked it again and it the went around the M25 all via the motorways.

So for my model it does seem to make a difference?

Another here that didn't know there was a difference... Bike through centre of London has got to be slower than the M25 in a car though

Does the Garmin measure distance as the crow flies? Swansea from Newquay,Cornwall is only 65 miles but the ETA is almost four hours. The only way it could be 65 miles is across the sea!

Even by the crows flies it would be far more than 65.. By road its 230. I would say it needs connecting to your comp and getting the lastest updates..

I wonder how many of you actually do that? I always do it every few months to keep my TomTom up to date.

Shouldn't need an update.  Swansea to Newquay was probably the same a 100 years ago :mfr_lol:

This is the sun shade I bought, seems to work fine.

It did say in the instructions that it should be fitted by a qualified person but I thought I'd risk it, thankfully I sucessfully managed to peel back the two self adhesive strips and apply them to the Zumo  Phew, that was a relief!  :sweatdrop:

That will most probably invalidate your bike insurance :mfr_lol:
