The bike has had the PR2s now for 5000 miles. Considering most of it is motorway mileage, the rear is yet to square off. Most of my journey is over the Pennines where it can get extremely windy.

Wind + dry conditions = good grip
Wind + wet = not so good

I've also found that generally in the wet the PR2s are adequate. I may try the Angel Pirellis as I hear they grip better but at the cost of faster wear. I may also consider the Continental Road Attack. Had these on my previous bike and they were solid even in the wet. Once again, they suffer from quick wear

As a seasoned ST rider I would swear by Avon ST and last longer  (8k if you ride carefully)

Everyone has their favourites and that's fine.  I do 20,000 miles a year so tyre wear is a very significant factor.  I have kept very detailed record of tyre wear for many different makes for over ten years and I conclude that there is little to choose between them.  Sure, some wear better than others but it's no good if a tyre last 10% longer but costs 20% more.  As an ex racer of 20 years experience, I am quite sure that all the sports touring tyres give excellent levels of grip and are better than most riders.  Claims about x tyre being so much better than y leave me unimpressed.  Mostly it is in your head although I do concede that different makes may feel different.  So I concentrate on getting most miles for my pound and that has meant that I have used Conti Road attacks for the last couple of years because I could get them at a good price.  You may find other bargains at your supplier or you may be a low mileage rider so the cost of tyres isn't as important.  Whatever floats your boat - it's your money.

Conti road attacks? I take it you have them on your GTR at the moment? I'm one of those people where it's 'in my head', and having used the tyre previously, absolutely loved the grip they gave.

Currently have the PR2, soon to be changed for Pirrelli Angels. Was toying with the road attacks.

I have the set of Angel, yes better grip but trade off is softer compound, so it should last less longer than PR2, so far 5000 miles and still good.

My crap OEMs that lasted 3700 miles.  The front was scalloped and the rear had squared off.  I went to the PR2 and was amazed at the difference.  I got around 12,000 on the first set.  I am not afraid to drag the pegs.  Just put a second set on.  The front definitely wears out first, which is surprising on a 151 HP bike (dyno'd, flies out, AreaP exhaust, BMC filter, PC-V)

Hello Rawman,

Obviously you are a big fan of the PR2's.

I am about to replace my tyres and currently have the original 021 Bridgestones. they feel really 'skittish" in the wet on road paint, arrows, etc and they don't inspire lots of confidence.

And for me confidence is what it's all about. Safety is paramount.

I don't wear out my pegs at anything like the same rate you do with your tyres but the PR2's must surely be excellent.

I noted Norman Bates has used PR2's but is considering Pirelli Angels............

So from the confidence and safety perpective......what would be your recommendations?

Just to be clear - getting the best mileage is not a priority for me. I'd rather "stick onto the road in both the dry and wet"

Thanks

Alan

I have tried PR2s
I have tried Pirelli Angel ST

The Pirelli is better but wears quicker. In a warm climate they are both equal, in a cold climate the Pirelli wins hands down

thanks Norman,

I live in the very south of Spain and it doesn't really get cold here like the UK in January !!

So I'll try the PR2's this time.

Thanks,

Alan

You're in for a treat. The PR2s make it feel like a new bike

Ive had PR'2 on all my other bikes as replacement tyres because I didnt like the originals and I have always been very impressed. So therefore if the Pirelli Angel ST is even better still I will give them serious consideration when the time to replace the tyres is due.

PR2s are a good all around tire.  There are quite a few "stickier" tires out there for better handling.  Not that I do it all that often, but I can scape the pegs with confidence on the PR2s.  There is a nice long 4 lane left hand sweeper going around Atlanta Motor Speedway.  You are scraping your pegs at almost full throttle going into the triple digits!  The bike gets a little squirrely shifting from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th.  What a rush!
I have heard PR2s don't do well before they are warmed up or in cold weather.  I ride whenever it is 50'F or above.  It doesn't happen very often here in Atlanta.  They do well in the rain on the superslab (freeways), which happens VERY often here!

I ride all year round, to and from work etc.. about 65 miles and I have just booked the bike in for ANOTHER set of PR 2's. I love them. They are just an all round decent bit of kit. We all have choices and their mine !
