The Beeza will do 50Mpg and produces 35Bhp.
The GTR does 50Mpg and produces 155Bhp.
That's progress for ya.  :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:

I'm all for classic bikes but please leave the rose tinted specs in the ditch.
They were mostly uncomfortable, unstable, underpowered and unreliable.
Whilst they have their attractions with very few exceptions they are really not that good.
This even holds for your beloved 70's strokers. The smaller ones were tolerable but the H2 is a foul handling beast that makes even the Z1 look benign and the Kettle didn't really handle all.
Those very few exceptions are now serious money, like the Vincents and Broughs.

Oh dear George....reach for the cabinet and take a couple of chill pills, and I don't possess any Rose tinted specs mate  :ohplease:

I know all too well about the relative merits and failings of today's machines when compared to those of yesteryear, I've been riding them for long enough, my response to Dave was in a light hearted manner and was in no way intended to rouse you from your sleepy hollow   :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:

The question does remain though that with a few exceptions most 'bigger' modern bikes don't perhaps return the kind of fuel economy that would be expected.
BE KIND...

If I had known the GTR was so fuel efficient earlier I would have changed long before. In fact it was the mpg told to me by dealers that put me off initially.

Again, virtues missed by the many but appreciated by the few!

now.. now ..! girls behave yourselves  it is only a bit of banter, I think the technology of modern motorcycles is as good as it going to get now for mass produced bikes  I love the seventies classics, the KH family and the RD family but to be honest, the power, handling, looks, brakes and reliability of modern day bikes leave the classics in the jurassic period  I remember my dad having a few B.S.A'S and a few enfields and there's one thing that is imprinted on my mind  which is, he allways used to leave a baking tray under the sump to catch the oil that dripped over night  he used to add oil as nearly as much as he added petrol  but Rog.. if you were to ask my dad what he would rather have! say a gtr or zzr or a B.S.A he would defo say the "latter" but he's also from the jurassic period  maybe your goodself and "64 ya know" and my old dad  should meet up  I'm sure the conversation between the three of you, would be most riveting :mfr_lol:
getting on now...  but not as old as Rog or Geoff

 my old fellow is much to old now to ride bikes, but he still drives his car.. or should I say! he tries. I was having a discussion with him about bike's at the time he had his B.S.A A7 500 think it was 1959 model, I remember riding it when I was 17 years old and it wasn't for the faint hearted, infact if I remember correctly it was a beast of a bike. anyway, at the time I had a rd400 and I had also just went up a few teeth on the rear sprocket it brought the top end down approx 10 m.p.h but it was bloody quick on acceleration, anyway.. we were discussing my rd400 and his relic 500 A7 and he reckoned that it would leave my rd400 standing. I would not ride his relic again, but I gave him a go of my rd400. well if you would have seen what I seen you would be on your back  ing till you were  ing I told him to take it easy and don't rev it like he did his relic but  he thought he knew best. well he rev it to about 5,000 r.p.m and let the clutch out  he took of like a bat out of hell and pulled one of the best wheelies have ever seen, anyone seeing that would have thought what a  old dude  but he was  :shit: ing himself and I was :sweatdrop: ing but did he  :surrender:  :nono: he blamed the bike and said.. your need your clutch adjusting there son, before it throws you off..!  :hammer:
