To OP: Just make sure you have a 20 amp in-line fuse close to the battery leads, it draws 18 Amp much more powerful than stock, so over time your stock fuse will blow.
Without relay ( not recommended) it works, but far less loud.

I put mine under the right side fairing with no issues whatsoever...

Found this article today

http://www.twistedthrottle.com/article/articleview/384/1/28/

thats article suggests no relay if im reading it correct, the horn will work without a realy but may not works to its full decibel potential. Fitting relays is good practice and a very sensible thing to do, a lot of DIYers are put off fitting them as they dont understand the wiring, they are very straight forward to  fit , the only additional wire you need for the relay is a hot wire to your battery , the other connections you use are the original horn wires and an additional earth to the frame , they  easy to understand and once someone shows you how , you will be converted. being able to use a soldering iron is handy .

According to the Swedish site www.berup.com, Stebel stopped production of the Nautilus horn... True?

I've always upgraded my standard horns to the Stebel Nautilus horns. Numpty car drivers just don't take any notice of standard horns.

Very compact and great sound.. haven't had a chance yet to mount it to the GTR, but will before the summer.

Ros

What kind of relay should one buy?

Cheers

Hi Ros,

I always use a 30amp 4 pin relay for the Stebel, but you could get away with a 20amp one though.

But definitely use a relay, standard wiring might be close to it's load limit to run the horn, better safe than sorry.

All the best.

Thanks for your reply.

Maybe I'm being a little daft, but where do you get one from? Ebay? Can you suggest a link to an example?  i don't much play around with the electrics...

Sorry for being a pain

Cheers

Aaaah wait... You are talking about the Nautilus... I got confused with my Magnum !

Sorrrry!  Will read the subject properly next time.

I blame my ipad (again)

As Bryn posted in another thread ( I think) magnum doesn't need a relay, so I should be able to get away without any clever electrics

Thanks and sorry again

Yeah I fitted a Magnum but without Relay.  I just got confused with the topics.  Might be a good idea to fit a relay anyway...

The Magnum makes a big enough noise for me anyway :)

Air horn would be overkill IMO...

Ros, just got a Magnum... It's a bit tight as a straight swap.. I've turned the bracket upside down and then mounted it.. Do you find there's enough clearance when the forks are compressed?

Edit: i think i may put the original back on, and piggy back the magnum... It should fit under the infil panel to right of the tank storage box....

Edit no.2 :  the original is louder than the new magnum  :hammer:  it's going back ,and I think I won't bother

viper

this one would suffice , 4 terminals,

Earth, battery , existing horn power, new horn

Ros

Bryn...

Try it with the engine running.

Then, tune it using the bolt.

And if the original is still louder, then I'd agree.

I have mine facing slightly to the side so as not to get too much weather in it...

However, mine does make a most satisfactory PARP!

I have ordered my Magnum today  - do they all need 'tuning' and is it easy?
I remember the older standard horns used to have a screw and lock nut to adjust the tweet.

Paddle faster, I think I hear banjo's...
