Another thing to think about when choosing....

Any time I've had a problem with my 660 Garmin or the mapping updates... I've rang the freephone help line , spoke to a human being who's first language is the same as mine, and got the problem resolved quickly......

Not sure if TomTom or any of the others would provide the same   :whistling:

As an alternative to a mounted satnav device, I use my Android phone safely tucked away in my pocket with a bluetooth connection to my Cardo headset.  It speaks directions when I'm near the junction.  Stick PocketGPSWorlds speed camera warning software on there too and the plod in France will be none the wiser.

I bought the Zumo 660 because I needed it for the bike and car at the time because my previous car didn't have built in navigation. The tomtom rider at the time required a special mount for the car because it didn't have a speaker. The 660 has a speaker and can be mounted in a (supplied) charger mount and it just.... worked in the car as well.  The Rider didn't come with the car mount and had to have a (not supplied) mount with a speaker for use in the car which was more expensivo.

Having said that, i traded in a tomtom go for it, and prefered the go software, but the zumo is easy enough to get used to after a bit.

Dead chuffed with it now :-)

thanks for all the responses which are all useful.

I have sat nav in the car so was looking at a bike only unit which I never intend becoming a slave to
I've looked on ebay for the 660 and they are looking like £300 used or a bit more refurbished

I may look at an older model and see how I go with using it

Cheers

if you dont need euro mapping you could get the model below the zumo 550, ( 450? 500?)

if it turns out to be a great unit you can get lifetime maps upgrade from the garmin site for £60-£70. buying an older unit will mean the maps are probably several years out of date .

warning, you need a Phd in quantum mechanics to have the brain power to actualy instal the maps and get the unit working, but there are a few on here that will help you through the process .

Well my offer still stands. I'm going to sell my Zumo 550 before the end of this year in any case as I fancy an upgrade.  Should someone on here want it, hint, hint, £250 will clinch the deal. I only live in West Yorks area so I could even deliver it locally, say to someone in the South Yorkshire area.  :whistling:
