I fitted my HID's today and the stebel horn.

I was quite concerned about taking the GTR apart, but it was actually quite easy.

I took the two side panels off on the top of the fairings and there was load  of space to put stuff.

Mines the 09 so got space either side.

I was able to fit the stebel horn in the off side on its facing downwards to open air about 5 inches above the original.

I fitted a ballast unit in both sides , there is plenty of brackets to cable tie on to. If you have a later model there is loads of space in the offside.

The most difficult thing to do was get the old bulb out because of the spring clip.

Putting the HID system in was a piece of cake.

On the bulb picture with the rubber cap, the bulb actually splits which I hadn't sussed at the time I took the picture. It splits by the thin green ring that goes around the bulb. So you put the bulb in, secure the spring clip then put on the rubber cap then push the electric switch on to the back of the bulb.

The offside pic shows the stebel horn which I took off my CBF before I sold it. Its very loud, much better then the GTR one.

Aren't those Xenon lights illegal if they're not a whole lamp assembly?  :whistling:
The later you brake the longer you go fast.

Ive also fitted my HID lights.. Really pleased with them

The HID's aren't illegal but could be an MOT fail unless you can adjust the rake off the beam which you can on the GTR.  I'M a PG9 vehicle examiner and I remove MOT's.  There isn't a copper in the land that would deal with HID's on a bike,  for one thing they wouldn't know if they are standard or not.   The original bulbs would go back in a couple of minutes a side for the MOT if it did become a problem if it was noticed and pop them back out after.

Difference between HID & Halogen lights

when you say piece of cake, is that based on 20 years of electrical engineering or following the instruction in the box ?

I've just ordered some off ebay and wondered if it was better getting a garage to do it ?
If it went to a gargage, any idea of a likely cost ?

Seriously, a piece of cake to do, im a copper not a sparky. When yours arrive, in box me and we can chat on the phone and talk you through it.

When I fittef HIDs to my GS one bit of advice I had was to fit the ballasts in the open as they generate a lot of heat.

Seeing your fitting here is behind the fairing I was wondering if anyone has experienced any heat problems - definitely thinking of keeping HIDs when I get the GTR, but positioning of the ballasts had worried me.

I fitted mine

I decided that my electrical skills, free time and complete lack of patience didnt match with taking faring off, fitting etc and gave it all to the chap who maintains my bike who trained on bike electrics.

Found out today that one of the ballast units doesnt work so will now be in a wrangle with the ebay sell

Also got a bigger bill for the messing about testing the loom etc and having to take it all off again

I ordered pannier liners on the same day that have yet to arrive !
