Some of you, perhaps even many of you may find this post pathetic, however to me and my wife this is a way of showing our love and respect to a dear friend who reached the end of his life this afternoon.
This young lad had been a part of our lives for almost ten years after we rescued him at the age of approximately three from a local dog rescue centre. Thirteen years old almost and regrettably he just gave up on life in the last few days leaving us with no option other than to make that one way trip to the vets to end his pain.

Rest in Peace Charlie, you'll always have a place in our hearts.

Sorry to hear this Steve.

Animals are a real part of the family and losing one is a true loss.

Condolences mate.
Four is fun.  Six is sex.

Nothing pathetic about it mate. Its heartbreaking to lose a pet thats been part of your life for so long.
Take comfort in the knowledge that you gave him a good life and did the right thing when it mattered.

so sorry for your loss, RIP charlie.

Last year myself and family took the loss of our nine year old house rabbit real bad, i took him to the vet for his final curtain call, a dog must be 10 times worse than this

Yes sorry to hear your sad news Steve, I dont care what anyone says you would not be more upset if one one of your kids died. It's really upsetting when some thing thats been part of your lives for so long is suddenly gone. BUT  I'm sure you have lots of fantastic memories, not to mention photos of the little fella.
What would you rather be   or a wasp?

Sorry to hear about the loss of Charlie Steve, I had to make the same decision not too long ago with my Springer Mouse, it was the only decision to take in the end

My Labrador Kite missed Mouse for a while but soon got back to her normal crazy self.
BE KIND...

As always Mecki your opinion is only your opinion, those who love their pets will beg to differ and should not be critised for it

So sorry for your loss Steve. I know just how you feel having done the same journey to the vets last Tuesday. The pain will linger but the happy times & photo's will allways remain.

Sorry to hear about your loss Steve.
I agree, pets are very close to our hearts and when we lose one, we feel a sense of loss.

There have been so many over the years.
Mine were all feline (I'm not a dog person, but am an animal person).

We lost my Pippins (blue burmese) when I was 14 and he was 8.
We left him in the care of a neighbour who turned out to be an alcoholic.
When we came back from a disastrous holiday (caravan caught fire) he hadn't been seen for several days.
We never saw him again. I pray that someone took him home and loved him but I still miss him.
We walked the Quantocks and the forests near Frillesas in Sweden together for a great many years.

The family replaced him with Albert (brown burmese) and he was a great cat and we had some fun but he was a family cat and spread his affections around.

When Ella moved in she brought the 2 girls (Puspus & Panda, mother and daughter, tortoiseshell moggies).
Both lived to 21 but they were Ellas cats and merely tolerated me.

We now have Monty (chocolate burmese) and Bozo (lilac burmese) and Bozo is definitely my cat.
I wish I had the time and space to take him on long wandering walks through the countryside.

Mecki, in some respects you are right but you are also bang out of order.
Have some sympathy/empathy for  :censored: sake!

Steve, if it's any comfort you do move on, and you never forget them.

Mecki, if you have children then maybe you don't invest as much in your pets as you do if you don't have kids.
I can't tell you as I don't have kids so have no way of comparing.
I do have cats and to my partner and I they are our "kids".
If someone deliberately harmed either of them I would feel quite justified in retaliating in full, much as someone would do if their kids were harmed.

I will never have to bury one of my children as I don't have any,... but I have buried my best friend (suicide).
I dread the day I will have to bury one of my parents or sisters.

As for comparing your pain with my pain, that's just a waste of time.
