Hi all,

Im fast approaching 20k miles and there seems to be a very slight "click" or "Play" which feels like metal on metal, coming from what feels to be the top yolk.

Do you think this could be the bearings or it just needs tightening?  If so, does anyone know how easy this is to do?  Would I have to strip the whole bars etc?

Cheers all...

I had this on my zx636cf6 model a few years ago, when braking I was getting a loud clicking noise from around the head stock. my first port of call was the head bearings. I  back off the head stock nut, used a steering head adjuster spanner. back off the bottom castle nut half turn, then tighten the top castle nut on it. use the bottom castle to lock again then retorque your head stock nut! mine on the zx636 just needed adjusting so this done the trick. it only takes 15 mins max so worth a try before Striping Down and paying out for new head bearings
getting on now...  but not as old as Rog or Geoff

to be on the safe side.. please take your bike to a dealer and asked them to check your head bearings for play. if they only need adjusting they may not even charge you. for a experienced tech with the correct tools, adjusting the head bearings is a 10 min job. then you know your bike is safe

Lol yeah, I wasn't going to attempt it.  Just wondered if anyone had a clue what it was.  As I am paying the divorce lawyer £6 per minute... yes thats per minute...I was praying it wasn't going to be expensive...
