Just got back from our HBAM 'Tour of the North' - fantastic (apart from the rain/floods on way home today)!!

Battered and bruised (from last wekend) GTR behaved superbly. Just sorting gear out in garage and hanging numerous layers out to air / dry...

Just 'fiddling' with bike before I 'put her to bed'..and noticed that the sat nav wire was 'bloody hot'!! so much so, that the rubber cover for when its NOT plugged in is starting to melt!!! As I mentioned last weekend, the stealer said he would wire it in 'permantly live' - even though I said - connect it to the front accessory socket. He said.... its not got one on these later models..... Hmmm lying sod!!

... as someone said last weekend, it's obvioulsy easier for them to wire it in live than look for the accessory wires at 'hidden' under the front of the fairing!!!

So, what the bloody hell has he done!!!

Now I am gonna have call them tomorrow morning and complain BIG time - then go all the bloody way back to Colchester to sort the frigging thing out!!! Arrrggghhh!!!!!
I came, I saw, I rode off....

Keith, glad the trip went well despite the weather.
I'd personally contact the dealer & tell them what the problem is. They have un-necessarily caused this problem. We all know the accessory leads are front and rear on all models. Either bite the bullet and ride back to Colchester or if you have a local dealer which you trust, take it there, get it sorted and then get the original dealer to refund you.

It's easier to wire onto the accessory leads at the front than it is to the battery.

As for the later models not having the leads, that's laughable.

The only issue with the new models is that they are slower than the older ones  :whistling:

Thanks Steve, makes you wonder why they even say such things?....
Downright lie just to make there lives easier.

Anyway I'll call the service manager tomorrow and ask for a refund of the £30 AND a new Garmin cable - I'll see what his reaction is. Assuming he agress - I'll then use my local dealer.

To be honest we could have wired it in for you at the Lower Lode Inn direct to the accessory connectors and we wouldn't have charged anything like £30!  :mfr_lol:

It's not a difficult task to do it yerself, to be honest. Even I was able to do t and I'm a complete noooob... I usually leave all that kind of wiring stuff to,someone who knows... Anyway, I think it took about half an hour to mount the whole thing and then a bit longer to put the starcom digital in and hook 'em all together.

It did take me a while to access the rear accessory lead though IIRC

I was quite chuffed with myself!

I'm still amazed at the pictures of Deb's bike... How many accessories?!

I cant understand how anyone could mess up a simple wiring job... Even I could have done it better.  :mfr_lol:

After taking advice from the experts here not only did I wire my sat nav in easily I even managed to get extra brake lights in the top box, as others have said, it's easy and if I can do it......

yeah thanks for the all the helpful tips...... I think

Spoken to the dealer - he is 'dumbfounded'!!

Maybe....... during my little spill at the L L Inn, I shorted the wiring? My ciggy lighter socket that I use for the iPhone is now not working, so my frustration and outlay is rocketing upwards!!!
I came, I saw, I rode off....

the cig lighter socket is powered by a puney 5amp and ive popped mine a few times, its in the cluster under the seat, i changed mine to a 10amp and its fine now

The 5amp fuse is designed to protect the circuit against any accessory with a 'draw' over 5 amps....soooooo, if you are using accessories that have a requirement greater than this then the fuse will "pop", which is what its designed to do.....Therefore your 10amp fuse is doing its job
BE KIND...

A titolo informativo per chi non fosse a conoscenza il GTR 1400 ha un fusibile da 30 ampere che governa il KIPASS ECU il quale è alloggiato nel vano porta batteria lato serbatoio benzina. :2guns:
