Hi Tom,

I fitted a magnum too. And it didn't work to start with either.  I just fitted it and connected it where the stock horn was. However, after a bit of fiddling with the 'tuning screw' it blasts in a most satisfying manner!

- is it safe to just use the existing original horn wire - endings for the new horn ?

- is the current draw the same between the OE -vs- the new Horn ?

.

Tried adjusting with no success. Horn just clicks. Fitted the relay and all is now well. Obviously the original setup could not deliver the current, but have used original wiring on other bikes with no problem
Still all is sorted now
Thanks for all your help.

You run the risk of burning the switch if you don't have a relay

Excellent news

Maybe I should install a relay too then..........

How did you wire up the relay and where did you put it?

Right fairing off. Wire to battery and then route to horn. I have pics (I think). Will post them tonight (can't access from work)

Thanks very much ! I'd appreciate it.

Should be fun, i've never removed the fairing before..... :whistling:

Right, here is a pic

So:

  • I have a fuzeblock installed
  • The relay is the black block next to the fuzeblock
  • Mine is attached to the fuzeblock which is in turn wired to the battery. If you dont have a fuzeblock you would go direct to the battery
  • I originally had the stebel behind the foam. You can still see the metal bracket under the bar ends

Thanks very much indeed for the pic and explanation.

I will have a go at that just as soon as it rains!!

- hi Kwik,

- how does a Fuzeblock help with wiring new gadgets onto the GTR ?

Without a fuzeblock you wire either:

  • directly to the battery - running the risk of leaving the accessory switched on and draining the battery
  • take a feed from the accessory lead. This gives the advantage that the feed is switched to the ignition, but you run the risk of overloading if you have too many accessories wired
With a fuzeblock:

  • there is a single feed from the battery to the fuzeblock
  • the fuzeblock then allows for accessories to be wired on their own feed with a separate fuse
  • The accessories can be wired switched or unswitched
  • Less clutter, easier to regulate power and problem solve should an accessory fail
