Studies have shown that motorcycling requires more decisions per second, and more sheer data processing than nearly any other common activity or sport. The reactions and accurate decision making abilities needed have been likened to the reactions of fighter pilots! The consequences of bad decisions or poor situational awareness are pretty much the same for both groups too.

Occasionally, as a rider I have caught myself starting to make bad or late decisions while riding. In flight training, instructors call this being "behind the power curve". It is a mark of experience that when this begins to happen, the rider recognizes the situation, and more importantly, does something about it. A short break, a meal, or even a petrol stop can set things right again as it gives the brain a chance to catch up.

Good, accurate, and timely decisions are essential when riding a motorcycle...at least if you want to remain among the living. In short, the brain needs to keep up with the machine.....

Okeeis.... cue the music.....'Highway to the danger zone!!' daaa daa daa daaaaaaa!!!  :gunsmilie:
She is like the Bumblebee, she should not fly....... and yet she does!

:mfr_lol: I reckon there's some tongue in cheek behind that post Mogs.

But you are absolutely right, I ALWAYS expect the unexpected and NEVER assume that the road ahead is clear, and that principle applies if I'm on two wheels or four wheels or at work on multi wheels, the roads are full of dick heads who have little or no perception and even less forward plabnning capabilities.

When I passed my test many moons ago my dear late father said to me "just assume that everyone else on the road is a total f+*king pillock and you won't go far wrong, and if a football bounces out in front of you there WILL be a child chasing it.............as true today as it was back then

Stay within your, your machines and the conditions limits at all times..

BTW you can still 'hoon' whilst observing these guidlines   :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:

Totally agree with the Mogster. Thats exactly why I turned round on my ride this morning and came home after only doing 16 miles. My head was not where it should have been. Long story, work related, not something I can discuss on here cause you dont know who's peeping.

viper

thats why i have this screen name , 20 years of teaching rookies to fly

This is so cool cos I have got a GPZ900 in the garage. My winter project, it has been my winter project for two years now........

So when its done and I can ride it, my next winter project will be to learn to fly an F14 and if Mogster is correct, that should be a doddle................. LOL

That explains why I fancy Kelly McGillis!

dont fool yourselves , flying jets is whey whey harder than riding your bike, maybe not commercial avaiation , getting your wings for anything angry takes a very specially wired brain, then throw in your weapons systems ect ect

Actors always seem to pick up how to fly jets and stuff pretty quickly in films. It cant be that difficult can it?  :mfr_lol:

As Mogs said,... "likened to the reactions of fighter pilots",... not better than or even equal to.
I'm no fighter pilot although I'd give all my teeth for the chance to fly an A10 Warthog and pull the trigger on THAT GUN!!

Fighter pilots start out exceptional and are then trained intensively.
However they will soon be obsolete as computers with a human as "advisor" do a far better job, and cheaper.

As for Top Gun, Kelly McGillis is not my type.

However a GPZ900 would be nice. I've had several GTR1000's so I know the motor and most of the bike inside out.

Kelly's gone a bit down hill (like ice-man or whoever binned his jet)     I formally rescind my statement...I don't fancy Kelly McGillis.  Anyone see the French Open tennis womens final? :mfr_lol:

Doesn't look like Kelly has aged well at all
