After getting a bollocking off Geoff, (100milesaway) yesterday for not turning up at Seaways at Fridaythorpe on Sunday even though he didn't let on he was going Asif and I headed out to Whitby in North Yorkshire today. There was a purpose to the visit other than just visiting Whitby, Asif was seeking out a memorial of a former teacher which was reported to be displayed on a bench by the whale bones on the West Cliffe.
First shock of the day was when Asif rode towards me and all I could see where blinding lights from his spotlights on the front of the bike. There's a photo below but it doesn't really do them justice. Let me just assure you all they are bright and you'd have too be blind not to see him coming!
Very decent weather, didn't hit a drop of rain that I can remember until we got near Fylingdales a short distance from Whitby itself and even that cleared up within a few minutes leaving us with glorious sunshine for the rest of the day.
A quick petrol stop was required just off the A64 near York.

Another small group of bikers were present, but they seemed to want to keep themselves to themselves so I left them to it.

Got parked up in Whitby on the West Cliffe, designated area for bike parking. There used to be a sign stating it was free for bikes, the sign is gone but a hovering parking attendant confirmed it was still free.

We had a short walk through the town and ended up in a Subway for some grub. I've never seen it so busy in Whitby.

We thought for a minute we'd actually bumped into Geoff!  :mfr_lol:

Then we were convinced we'd bumped into Geoff when we saw his car.  :whistling:

Every man and his dog seemed to be eating fish and chips.

This is the local Life Boat Museum.

Some lovely clear blue skies.....in one direction

And some dull, flat skies in another direction.

Local boat trips if that suits.

We got back to the bikes and a Seagull had left a deposit on one of the GTR's :2guns:

Finally headed home via a different route where we encountered a mad yellow Ford Transit taxi that mounted the grass embankment to get past a car that was turning right and then performed another dubious overtake on a tractor, both had to be seen to be believed.  Pulled over for a breather down the road and a drink, before heading home on the final stint.

Total for me was 225 miles on one tank of full, which was pretty good. I think at the end though it was running on fumes.

Great day out, all that was missing was Geoff, where were you man?  :mfr_lol:

Nice little story board that! If I had known I would have come out with you today.  Ended up doing the lakes and then on the way back, the A683 down to Kirby Lonsdale.  Well impressed with how the bike handled.  Have been reading as many threads as possible and not sure if it's my imagination but I detect a slight judder when braking.  Also Mr Wolf, how did you resolve your ABS light issue you once had and someone told you to reset it?  My ABS light came on and won't go off.
Be Careful Out There!

As a matter of fact I went up to see how Hadrian was getting on with his wall, a place called Gilsland. We had a lovely lunch in a little cafe that me and the lads have used before on our visits to that region. Then we came back via Hartside, where we stopped to give assistance to a young chap on an old Guzzi. We think we solved his problem and sent him on his way again, he  had been doing the Dales and parts of Cumbria with some of his mates, and were heading home to Brighton. I did 250 miles( not on one tankfull) and mi tyres were smouldering when  I got back to my mansion. !!!!!!!!!!!!By the way Mr Wolf, as always your pickies are lovely.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!BUT that bloke in the 5th picture, who looks a bit dolly dimple,!!!!!!!!!!!is no where near as daft looking as me, and I will wager he is bereft of a lovely pair of pink arm bands, that look anywhere near as good as mine. :whistling: :mfr_lol:
What would you rather be   or a wasp?

Drop LW your details (if he hasn't got them already). I'm hopeless at arranging this stuff!

We had a Geography teacher in the 60s called Dennison.

He taught at Fartown County Secondary School, in Huddersfield, and he was a brilliant guy...I have some pictures of him with us on a school trip

I wonder would/could it be the same person ?

The very same teacher at the same school. He was a strict teacher and demanded impeccable behaviour  from students. We saw another side of him when we did a weeks field trip in Dorset. Sadly he passed away just as I was leaving school in the late 80s.

Its a small world Asif, he was a truly brilliant teacher and yes he WAS strict, he had a plimpsol for whacking you on the arse, if you got out of line, he called it Percy  and kept it in a cupboard behind his desk, we always stood up when he walked into the classroom, bet that doesn't occur today eh ?

I was 'fortunate' to be in his class, 4a, I never regretted a minute of his teaching skills, he was great.

Here's a link (which oddly isn't working at the mo) to the old school site, there are pics on there which are interesting, I guess you may have already visited this site

How weird is this then? It seems there's more to my tours than just a bike ride.
