Having just recently got my 09 GTR, I have been trying to get to know it and doing what most people do, I expect, taking off panels and seats and putting them on again etc. Ive wired in an Autocom (thanks Lonewolf) and have just put a puka gen Kwak Top Case on; however, it does seem rather flimsy and with the added back support for Mrs RR, I can't say I'm confident in its ridgidity.  The instructions specifically mention that 08 GTR racks should have been replaced by a reinforced one.  Has anyone got any experience with this please?  Also, is that little key within the key fob supposed to start the bike as a backup?  Don't think mine turns. Finally, what's the point in those nice running (side lights) if the headlights come on all the time?

The rack problem is common. Most people put on an aftermarket rack that is more rigid. Phils rack is most common: http://www.philsfarkels.com/

The key within the fob is for your panniers and fuel tank. Both fobs (or one fob one card thingy on the newer models) will operate the bike in an emergency. You need to put the fob (or card) near the notch behind the ignition mechanism.

Kawasaki specifically put the running lights on for me. I use blue running lights just so Lonewolf can tell me off  :mfr_lol:

I have the 11 bike and was not satisfied with the plastic mounting bracket, so i got a mate to water jet one out for me from the orignal in Alloy checker plate, holes as well, talk about rigid, spot on.

SW Motech also do a metal replacement rack which is easy to fit and looks good. I've got one on mine with a Kappa K53 top box. You can adapt it for just about any make. Easier to get hold of than the american one I would think but you pays your money...

Mr RR, glad you found the info on the Autocom useful. It's mixed opinions with the 47 ltr top box and it's stability. Rusty, I understand packed his last year for a trip to France and all was well, Winston likewise. It's just personal preference I think. I have the 47ltr box on my standard plastic plate and it's fine, although having said that I do have a metal one on order, but that's more through choice than necessity.
The offer is still there should you wish to take me up on it. I'm happy to meet up at some point if you like, maybe even Kwikasfuki will come along. Between us I'm sure we can answer most of your questions.

Alternatively get yourself to the Cotswolds meet at the end of June, wall to wall GTR nuts will be at your disposal.  :mfr_lol:

RR the GIVI rack is also a more substantial/rigid Top Box rack

I fitted one  and its great, I'm quoted as saying its a "bit fiddly to fit" which apparently is an understatement  :mfr_lol:

Bit fiddly!!  :hammer: you might say that  :help: ..... tbh It doesn't help that the instructions are badly translated from Italian.....  :mfr_lol:

Thanks everyone for the info (and pics). I contacted Kawasaki UK and got a quick reply back....'the rack was superceded to part number 53029-0050 after 2008 but the 'important notice' in the top box instructions were never amended!  Anyway, enough of that.  If I can get the weekend off work then I'm hopefully down for the Cotswold meet.
