Now on Sunday it was a tad warm.... and so me and Smarty dressed accordingly, Vented Boots, hypercool base layers, vented leathers, summer mesh and leather jackets (armoured) back protectors and summer vented gloves...

Now we were a tad warm but on the whole comfortable......

Now some of the other muppets who were zooming around didn't seem to have read the memo....

we saw bikes being ridden (at speed) by ppl in shorts, t-shirts, no shirts  no gloves, and my personal fave was the guy who blasted past us on the A120 on his Ducati ....in Flip flops!!!!... i had to catch up just to see if i wasn't seeing things.... oh yes and his GF on the back was in shorts, flip flops and a vest top...... it's no wonder the Establishment gets the hump with us (Bikers) when they see us dressed like that..

I have to say that even in my 'YTS' days (thas Young Thick and Stupid) on my 100cc yamahahaha I still tried to wear the right gear.

I suppose it may be because i know ppl who have been daft enough to pounce about in Kevlar speedos and have paid the price that I make sure I have made an effort to protect me self.....

After years on the Bikes I have friends in wheel chairs cos they thought back protectors were fer wusses, I know a lady who hasn't worn a skirt or shorts since she was 18 cos she came off yer little Suzuki and was wearing a skirt.... she used to have a cracking pair of legs.... and probably one of the worst was seeing a bloke on a CBR1000. some years ago, loose the front and put a foot down to kick it back upright...shame he was barefoot..... it was a mess and all his toes were ripped off.

One of my friends came off 2 years ago, big style, he hit and uprooted a road sign as he was flying through the air, yes he was injured but his life was saved by the fact he had a good lid, leathers boots, gloves and a back protector on....

I have raced in the past and dropped a Gixer flat out at the end of the back straight at Snetterton.... i slide fer ages.. leathers, boots and lid trashed, but I was totaly unhurt...... makes ya wonder though how good skin is at sliding down roads.... not very good.
She is like the Bumblebee, she should not fly....... and yet she does!

Totally agree with you 100%. I used the bike for work last week, mid 20's and very warm but I still had all my gear on. I just had to change to a thinner pair of gloves cause my Rukka winter gloves were a tad too much.
Plenty of folk though on scooters and sports bikes wearing t-shirts and shorts.

Rusty

I think we are all agreed on here .... they are all Mongs.

i went to the new forest on saturday, leather boot's,fullface helmet, leather trouser's,textile jacket, god it was HOT,i was sweating like a pig.i WILL under no circumstance's NOT wear the proper gear whilst out on the bike.there are some right fool's out there who think they look cool wearing very little protective gear.

O.C.

Couldn't agree more. I saw a guy on a  elderly ZX9  this tea time riding in tea shirt, shorts, no gloves and sat back (almost laid back) with no hands on the bars ,, fkn wanker

i dont even feel safe wearing JEAN'S as opposed to leather or textile trouser's,a pal of mine alway's wore leather's,one only day he didn't bother as he was only going a short distance,he was hit on the side while he waiting to turn right,he had multiple break's in his right leg, nearly lost his leg,he had 11 months off work,it cost him his job & alot of pain,it's leather or textile for me 100%.

I was out in the car on Saturday and some idiot on a sports bike in t shirt and shorts, no gloves or boots with girlfriend on the back in similar attire.
They just don't seem to have any idea of the consequences - they ought to show pictures of gravel rash and what it does to you, that should be enough to make people think - although its probably too gruesome to show on TV even after the watershed

I agree, Mongs, but it's their choice!
Some choose to run illegally loud pipes, some choose to ride like  :asshole:'s, some choose to ride effectively naked.
At least with the nekkid ones it's only *their* skin that will get trashed.
Riding like an  :asshole: often affects others (especially when it goes wrong) and loud pipes can upset a LOT of people.

I rarely wear riding trousers as I cannot afford a pair for summer, a pair for spring/autumn and a pair for winter.
I have a pair with a zip in liner that does for wet weather and winter but in the spring/summer/autumn I just wear jeans.
If I could get mesh trousers in my size and had the money then I'd probably buy some but I can't so it's irrelevant.
At the moment I am struggling to get bike boots in my size (15UK 52EU) but may have managed to source some.

I've seen people riding in leather shorts and flip-flops, and a lid. His "bitch" was wearing a leather bikini, flip-flops and a lid.
Would have been a shame if they did come off as they were a fine looking pair but it's THEIR CHOICE and it doesn't affect you.

So please continue tut-tuting away unless you are Police/Paramedic in which case you have my sympathy for having to clean up the mess after they do come off.

It's definitely their choice. My RoSPA tutor mentioned it at the weekend as we saw a lot of folk out without gear on while we were chatting after my ride (which I must write a note about on my thread). He said that he always says to them (if he's ever chatting to them), do you fancy rubbing your elbow along the ground right now? Then how about at 30+ mph?

Anyway, this year I've got some leather trousers for the first time as the opinion is they give the best protection. I wore them on both Saturday and Sunday in 27 degrees C according to the GTR. It was a bit toasty, but I think I could do that again. Stopping and removing jacket while drinking a cold drink in the shade for 30 minutes is a big help. If it got much hotter though I might struggle. I used to have some mesh trousers (which I'll need if we get hotter weather), but I've not needed them the last couple of years and now I can't find 'em. :-(

Agreed agreed.  They are a terrifying sight.

That I was fully armoured up and wearing an H Sam tilted the Sussex police in favour of not prosecuting me for my prang.  Oh, and of course they minimised my injuries - so a bonus there.

Sadly my armoured summer jacket (13 years old) was cut off and I have not found a good replacement - small price though.

I am off on a 2,400 mile trip on Friday.  I will have to wear my Rukka jacket but hey, I could use some weight loss, so sweat a little, strip it off during coffee stops (even change T ) and shower at the end of day.  Beats the horror stories related by Mogs above.

On a thread deviation note :I have just invested in a Senna to obviate the need to look at the sat nav which is fitted, for my 6'4"height,  rather low.

Any feed back on sena?

Safe riding all.
Just because many do it does not make it right. Just because many think it does not make it true.

To link up to what Boomer said, until perhaps you've personally seen the local council jet washing or the fire brigade hosing down a stretch of Tarmac to remove the remains of a person, blood, skin, bone, brain etc it doesn't seem to sink in with most people regarding decent attire & then it's too late!

What gets missed, the foxes usually eat.

Also as Boomer says "So please continue tut-tuting away" they aint harming you. I usually wear all the gear but when in Europe in 40c heat I saw bikers fainting in the heat because they were wearing the "right gear" but were a danger to themselves and others as they were suffering heatstroke/dehydration. There is also the dress to crash mentality, just because Lorenzo et al crash at 100+ and walk away some think that wearing leather/armoured textile makes them invincible. It doesn't

I have worn and will continue to wear jeans/combats even shorts with t-shirt etc if i feel comfortable ( to slightly mitigate, I have a 4 mile commute in an urban area with the highest speed limit of 40mph and if "dressed down" I dont compete with the traffic. If going on faster roads, proper ride out I dress accordingly)

Rumour has it that at 30mph if you come off onto tarmac within 3 seconds you'll be down to bone and the bad news is you'll still be rolling unless of course you're unlucky enough to hit some street furniture!

Yes, I've done it years ago, t-shirt, no helmet while I was out in the south of France but I wouldn't do it now if you paid me.

routemaster

It is the indviduals choice and it is very tempting to wear not a lot when its hot and if its a trip just down the road - I cant say I blame and in the past I have been tempted but haven't. Having seen the consequences of both low and high speed spills where people haven't worn appropriate gear and the mess +blood and being able to see peoples bones and muscle is enough.

Part of the problem is people don't think it will happen to them, its always somebody else and very few people get see to the damage and the disfigurement that gravel rash does.

Kind regards

Steve
