MotoGP world champion Casey Stoner will retire at the end of the season, the Australian said on Thursday.

"After a long time thinking, a lot of time talking with my family and my wife, this has been coming for a couple of years now but at the end of this 2012 season I will be not racing in the 2013 Championship," the Honda rider told a news conference.

well i have to say, I saw this coming... despite winning he has said that he's not prepared to take the risks other riders are...... see this is why Racers should not have kids.... he's been out of the game since his sprog was born...... has happened to quite a few in the past.
She is like the Bumblebee, she should not fly....... and yet she does!

I suspect after he wins this season and the financial offers pour in, he'll stick around for another year or two.
Too good a day to die

O.C.

He's undoubtedly a very very talented rider,  lets face it he made the Ducati work.....others don't seem to be able to

Nope, he's definitely gone at the end of the year. Shame but I can understand it.
He's a double World Champion, pretty damned rich, has a lovely wife and a new child.
And right now he gets to spend most of his time away from home, away from his wife, away from his kid, living in hotel rooms, permanently jet-lagged, risking his life to earn even more money that he doesn't need.

I won't be at all surprised if Rossi leaves at the end of the year either.
Tomizawa and Simoncelli's deaths hit many of the riders a lot harder than they are willing to admit.
Even those who didn't really know them suddenly got confronted by their mortality.

You just hit the nail square on the head George, and I couldn't agree more  :agree:

Rossi is now saying that he wants another 2 years in MotoGP.
Sundays performance seems to have underlined that as well.
Be interesting to see what he does from now on.
