euro tunnel now booked for august the 3rd and the first night accommodation in reims booked. its long ride to reims from merseyside, and the last time we did this trip, it was on my zzr1400 which done the whole trip including the french/swiz alps and italy with extreme ease..! so the gtr as got a lot to live up to, so as the saying goes.. "the proof of the pudding is in the eating" after the 11th I will be in the position to judge which is best, taking all riding conditions into consideration. 2nd day south of france and some... return tunnel booked for the 11th, possible last night at Saint-Quentin. anyone eles going within theses dates, possible meet up
getting on now...  but not as old as Rog or Geoff

Which way are you going into Italy???

I have done the Rotterdam-to-Chambery-in-a-day trip (600 miles in 11-12 hrs) on a 1250 Bandit with gel seat and the GTR (Standard).
On the Bandit it was agony before I even reached Lyon despite the gel seat and on the GTR I could have gone on even further when I arrived.
After I arrived on the Bandit it took me (I mean my bum) a couple of days to recover.
When I did it on the GTR I was ready to go exploring the very next day.
So I'm sure it will be just fine to go to Reims.
She is a real mile-muncher.
One thing I learnt is to lower the windscreen every now and then for a while to take pressure off the wrists.
The later you brake the longer you go fast.

if I remember correctly, we left merseyside at 7.00 am and got to the chunnel at approx 12.00 noon we were booked on the 1.15pm crossing but manged to get on the train right away. we filled up with fuel at the first station just as we got of the train in calais with another 2 fill ups and 15 min breaks to follow..! and we arrived in riems approx 5.30 pm. then one hours kip, the hotel was in right in the centre of riems and we parked our bikes just outside of the hotels front reception which was on the main strip in the centre of riems, then we just just sat out enjoying some well deserved very cold beers and Ogling the Ladies walking passed  but they seemed more interested in the zzr and my mates hayabusa than us  lets hope they find me more interesting than the gtr this time  it was a good 10 hour ride, but I don't think I could I've gone any further, so this is why we picked riems again for the first stopover. not sure which way we will be going into italy yet, but most likley will head down to marseille, toulon, monaco then into genoa italy not sure how long we will stay in italy for but will be exiting italy through turin and back through the swiz and french alps maybe a stop over at grennoble or lyon pending time. plan on making st quentin for the last night before the chunnel

my chunnel is also booked for the 23rd june, still chuffed at the value for money the chunnel offers

leaving Manc town on the friday eve , stop over in bishops stortford which gives me an hour jaunt to the crossing on the sat morning. Going through belgium and germany on route to Czech republic, where i will pick up my wingman . will stop over in germany somewhere when I hit the wall.

ive got a nice holiday booked  before that but all i can think about is getting on my bike and going  :scooter: :scooter: :scooter:

we paid £70.00 return for the chunnel, could have got the return for £27.00 but it was a 2 hour earlier crossing which may be pushing it abit..! I've also got mexico 5 star all inclusive booked for the 28th may with my significant other half, and for some strange reason, I seem to be thinking of the bike trip all the time. most likley because it's 8 days of eating fast foods and drinking cold beers and not being dragged around shops all day. and not to mention having the best "ride" possible, on the bike of course..!
