Quote from last evening's post :

Interestingly (or not) my K1200RS user manual exhorts the rider in the strongest possible term to NOT to  :nono:let the bike warm up before riding off but to get on and go.  This for 1999 flying brick.

:mfr_lol:However, this has been a very entertaining post which warmed quite a few of us up :mfr_lol:

Thanks kev, i was resisting the urge to say that modern engines dont need the old warm up phase like the 50's, im considerate , i just start and ride, i never fit noisy cans and i dont rev, not saying this guy does but so many inconsiderate bikers give the good guys a bad name.
Well, the manual for the GTR states , 'Do not start moving or race the engine immediately after starting it, even if the engine is already warm. Run the engine for two or three minutes at idle speed to give the oil a chance to work up into all the engine parts.'

So we now know at least two people we shouldn't buy a second hand bike from.
The later you brake the longer you go fast.

By the time I have the bike out of the shed, gloves etc on, the temperature is already on one bar.

I don't rev the engine whilst its idling. I do have an after market can with the baffle out though, but at idle its like the stock

i think in reality , most of us , start the bike , get helmet and gloves on and then go , no revving and take it easy until the tyres warm up. A gtr at tickover with a standard exhaust should not annoy anyone, they are remarkably quiet !

 :agree:

There's three of us on the same road with bikes and don't think we've had any complaints

As my current terraced house does not have them (surprise surprise) then  neither, I suppose, would a northern shed or garage. However, if the price is right - why not  :mfr_lol: .

Garages, even sheds are very costly to rent here which is a pity becauce so far I have not been able to get a GTR14 quote for "ungaraged overnight" . Clearly a sought after bike by the thieves.  :censored: :censored: :censored:

Meanwhile, from the underwriter's/ actuary's perspective, there is more chance of her being nicked than of me writing her off. I kinder like those odds :mfr_lol:

This (garaging thing)was never a problem with the Beamer.....funny that :mfr_lol:  Not enough street cred' to make her nickable I guess :mfr_lol:

Perhaps the solution is to house swap with the insomniac motophobe lady...... if they have a lock-up and have not locked her up :whistling:

I get kitted up in the house, bike out of the garage, fire it up, lock house key up in pannier, ear plugs in, helmet on, and ride off into the sunset. No worries.

My mate who lives in a nicer part of town, parked his BM on the drive, went back in the garage to get his lid and gloves, locked the door from inside and walked through the house to his front door to find his BM gone after leaving it unattended for less than 60 seconds. he heard nothing and saw nothing, and was tempted to claim it as abducted by aliens. Keys were in his hand all the time and not in the bike. Carole Nash were very good and paid out quickly. It was a gold coloured S reg BMW R100RT, nicked from Stockport.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!! But I don't have a garage :hammer:  Unless you mean that I should widen the  front door and frame, remove step and add a ramp (which will probably be required before too long anyway) and keep her in the hall

I like it, yes I do.  And, I could install a specially weight and width adapted Stanner and she could "sleep" upstairs, have her own room even, yes, yes yes

Would that satisfy the shite hawks of the  :censored: :censored: :censored: insurance industry?  Probably not; they would just increase my household and buildings insurance.  :censored: :asshole: :asshole:

Either I'm misunderstanding your post or you are of the opinion that 'Northeners' live in sheds or garages

No No No No Nooooooooo! Sorry for any misunderstanding.

It is very much on my mind and has been refered to here that the insurers won't cover me without a garage.  Never an issue with my Beamer.

When I saw (above) that great bike collection, I thought lucky buggers on this forum, when ever I see pictures, I see garages.

So the thought, (light hearted) that, maybe if I moved north, I could perhaps, having regard to what you read about property price differentials, afford to buy or rent a garage (or  even one with a house attached  )  thereby solving my insurance issue and even giving scope for a collection and a place to work on it.

As I say, just light and not knocking your abodes but rather admiring your life styles.   :sweatdrop: :sweatdrop: :mfr_lol:

OK ?

It is amazing the way threads evolve  :mfr_lol:
