Hi,
my name's Bert and I live in Paisley. I'll be taking delivery of my new GTR 1400 on 2nd April.
Thought I'd check in here and say hello.
Anyone got any tips on running the beast in? I have a 4 day tour coming up towards the end of the month and I'd like to be all run in before it.

Cheers

Bert

Winston Smith

Just take it easy, take it through the rev range, but don't thrash it, get your 600 in as quick as you can (I find booking the first service when collecting the bike puts the pressure on getting the mileage in!)

Oh.  And ENJOY the beast!
Four is fun.  Six is sex.

Hi Bert and welcome to the forum.

As per what Winston says TBH. I would probably avoid labouring it on the motorway initially though. I think the recommendation is not to exceed 4000 rpm for the breaking period. That will get you up to 80 - 90 ish I reckon.

Eh up Bert,  :185:  along. Congratulations on the GTR purchase. Where are you planning on touring?

Rusty

Welcome Berty .... Get those miles in and be prepared to have a sore face after a few days .... bought on by all that SMILING

Thanks for the welcome guys, and the advice.
I've only got a few days with the bike and then I'm off on holiday so I'll need to try and pile some miles in the first week.
I'm off on a tour of the Scottish highlands on the 20th so I'm keen to have her broken in and first service done before I go. Wouldn't want to be the back marker, 16 bikes coming over from Ireland and being the only Jock I can't let the side down :)

I have the perfect solution. Leave the bike with me whilst you're on holiday and it'll be guaranteed to be broken in  :whistling:

Would you believe that you're not the first to suggest that?

I did a tour of Scotland last year, Loch Lomond, Lock Ness, Glencoe, Fort William all around that particular area and then the west coast, Port Patrick, returning home via Kirkcudbright and back towards The Lakes. Brilliant short break which also lasted four days.

Here's a link to it should you wish to have a look. http://www.gtr1400.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,591.0.html

Welcome, make the engine work, as already said DO NOT LABOUR on long stretches, try and get a good selection of different roads etc, and try and get ALL the lever positions to suit you while picking the bike up
get a grip and deal with it

Yes leave it with Kwikas but confiscate his low gel saddle and he won't be going anywhere  :mfr_lol:

Also, there's an 09 in L'Ecosse you might be able to borrow......I have forgotten which thread
Just because many do it does not make it right. Just because many think it does not make it true.

Mr Wolf ... I had forgotten how lovely those pictures were ... what a lovely place to go

A BIG welcome from the Lake District Bert, you will love your new GTR

The advice you have been given re running your bike in is as good as it gets, take it easy, and steadily build her up

Where in Ireland are the bikes coming from for your Tour...I have many friends in Northern Ireland and have visited there many many times

remember to post some pics when you return, as this is a friendly helpful forum with more than a few olde codgers who like piccies  :mfr_lol:

I just had a look at Lonewolf's post from his trip. It looked fantastic and very well photographed and written up.

I can't promise anything as good but if the trusty iPhone does what it says on the tin then I'll have a few photos to post up.

Most of the bikes are coming over from Eire, mostly around Dublin and Kildare but there are a few coming up from Englandshire too.

I reckon about 18 in total, It should be a blast. I'm new to the group, only know a couple of the lads so I'm looking forward to it.
here's the route we're taking.

Thanks Bert, I don't know many folk in Eire, but I bet your in for a good trip in great company.

The routes look superb...I love Pitlochry, and used to make sure I could stay there when I was travelling (Atholl Palace)...at company expense...of course
