I am so glad that I was ignorant of the German law which prohibits motorcycle filtering, when I rode to Hanover last year.

Fortunately, my aforementioned ignorance was not commented upon by the Polizei or any motorists.

Furthermore, I did not notice any bikers sitting in line, though in fairness, I did not see many bikers, it being pre season.

So, ignorance was bliss but might not have been an excuse under Das Gesetz.  And, for sure not in Belgium:

I was aware, fortunately, that the Belgian Gendies can confiscate the machine of he who speeds!  Well, that's what I was told and I was not going for the benefit of the doubt  (having lived there for a few years in the 70's) :nono:

Popped in to Wilbers on the way back where I had booked her in for new shocks front and rear. ("Why not on the motorcycle as well"  I hear you cry.   :cheesy:

Note:  This post was prompted by the (2011)  post concerning (planned) European Legislation and opposition to it  which I have just read.

Now who was that Tyneside Kiwi raising British sensitivities?  It is so interesting that we English can even be bigoted (small b) towards folk in the next village but quickly unite in the face of colonial critics.

As a young man I spent several wonderful years in Australia.  Their definition of a Kiwi was.....nah!   :listencarefully:   Perhaps not on this properly moderated forum.

Just because many do it does not make it right. Just because many think it does not make it true.

Don't get me started what the Kiwis think of the Aussies or the Poms.  :ohplease:

if that's all you could find of any interest in my post  then :oops:I guess I already have - got you started, that is  :surrender:

"Filtering" is illegal in most countries.  :nono:
It may be tolerated by some cops if traffic is stationary and you move slowly but I wouldn't count on it.
After all it's either "undertaking", wrong overtaking or even regarded as reckless or dangerous riding.
In most cases especially with a UK plate you may get off with a warning but using the "third lane" can cost you not only in Germany.
Even in the UK you may get prosecuted if the fuzz feel like it.
Wales comes to mind.
So yes, except for slandering "that Tyneside Kiwi" there isn't anything interesting in your post.

Thank you for that Mr Mecki.   Oh, and call me pedantic, but I think the word is libel !:surrender:

Now perhaps I can attempt to be less boring by asking for your assistance :ohplease::  Do all 2009 bikes have abs?

Why do I ask?  I registered here last week and explained that I would be having my first 14GTR ride this Wednesday.  The boss of the bike hire firm felt sure that the bike was a 2010 but check today to be sure.  This I did by speaking with his wife just now and was informed that the bike is a 2009 and she did not know about ABS.

As the purpose of this 24hr hire is a test ride (without involving dealers at this stage) and the purchase goal (if I love it like you all do) lies somewhere between a late'10 and an early (aren't they all just now) 12, is there any point in riding a 2009 bike?

All UK models are with ABS

I would still ride the 2009. From speaking to LW, the ride on the 2010 and later models is more refined.

I've filtered in Germany, France, Belgium, Holland, Denmark, Spain, Italy, Greece, and the USA (Virginia, Washington DC, and California). Apparently it's tolerated in California but illegal in all the rest.

Like most things, if done sensibly most plod are not going to nick you.
Ride like a twat and you are going to get busted, bagged, and binned.  :death:

Belgium doesn't have any Gendarmes any more. They were disbanded after the DuTroux scandal.
Several senior Gendarmes were implicated and there were several "disappearances" and suicides.

What they have now is Local and Federal Police.

As for the racist comments,.... I'm not racist. I hate all of you equally!  :taz:

Hi Mr Kwik, I have just been down to "about town bike hire" and checked her out: ABS, as you advised and rather nice to sit on!!!

I could see straight away that the screen is a bit inadequate for my bulk/height but then so was mine ..........legs felt fine, slight sliding forward felling but the wind will push me back

Roll on Wednesday!

Now then, a route needs planning to get the best out of the day.   I am thinking A3 to Guilford and then back roads to Chichester then Pagham where a great fish and chips  could be had.......things change of course......

Then a return on mixed A and Bs.

Of course, with a full 24hours at my disposal, I could try for an epic!!!!!

Well I've so far only been stopped for filtering in New Zealand and Holland.
The Dutch plod just shook their heads and waved a finger at me.  :nono:
In those days they still had traffic cops in NZ driving those black and white patrol cars (see the thread about the attitude test and Aussi Highway patrol - which is about the same) and even though he couldn't get me to admit that I wasn't just changing lanes smartly in heavy crawling traffic (which obviously isn't illegal and the rule is never to admit you've knowingly done anything wrong, because if you do they do you for it) the b...d got me for a marginal  :whistling: tyre instead and I was late for work too.

Antipodean police!

Quite sight to see 6'6" x 20stone NSW Raging Bull in breeches and jack boots.  After inspecting my UK driving license (you get/got three months grace) he threw it with as much force as he could muster (not inconsiderable) in my face, turned purple and screamed "That's not a F...ing license that's f..king arse paper!

I took the eventually proffered multiple choice ticket and without looking at it, drove the180 ish miles home.   On arrival I checked the ticket and found that none of the boxes were checked

Never heard another word    Must have passed the attitude test..............

Haha!
That pretty well sums up their attitude towards us.

A Police bike instructor once told a colleauge of mine on traffic, "If you aren't going to filter, whats the point of having a bike?"

for 'normal' (i.e. road riding) that pretty much sums it up....
I came, I saw, I rode off....

Absolutely Mr Wolf.  Ban filtering and there would be hardly any point in taking a bike through a British city outside the period from 9 pm to 6 am.
