Hi All

new member so just getting used to the forum - posted this once and lost it!

New owner and very pleased with a fantastic machine - I noted a couple of posts re; seats and as a  tall rider I found the standard seat pushed me too far forward onto the tank and put too much weight on my wrists.A very simple fix was that I bought a ZZR 1400 seat that fits directly on the standard mounts and got a local guy to move the hump backwards 2" - perfect! loads of room to move about.

I also got rid of the top box mounting plate and got my local engineers to knock up a grab rail on a plate that is a 2 minute swap for the standard rack, gives security to the pillion and tidies the tail cluster up a bit too.

Great forum - glad to be on board

cheers Nick

Hi Nick,

I've been looking for a ZZR1400 seat for a while but they are usually too expensive.
I had a Russell Daylong but had to sell that when the credit crunch bit me.  :(

At 6'4" and 26 stone the stock seat is ok for up to 2 hours but after that I have to get off and walk around for a while.
When I get back on the most I can manage is 1 hour.

However, if I wear my Cordura over trousers I can ride much longer as they help distribute the load a bit.
Only problem with that is that in spring/summer/autumn I sweat like the fat pig that I am in those.  ::)

Sheep...yup thats the way to go 'specialy if like me there's some Welsh in ya... putting a nice bit of fluffy sheepie between you and the seat makes a hooge difference...no really! it stops ones buttocks falling asleep and also stops ya getting sweaty to. ;D
She is like the Bumblebee, she should not fly....... and yet she does!

I'm 6'6" tall and have some bar risers that helped my seating position, although I kind of liked being slightly forward too. Interesting to hear about the ZZR seat. I might have a look at that some time.

These are great tips.  I am a 6" 4'/ 17stone old fart.

I have ridden my K1200RS all over Europe and never felt any discomfort despite size 13 Daytona Touring boots and dodgy knees.   Alas my Bayerischer Babe and I have reached a major cross roads.

As I am not inclined to pour more Dosh down the  Deutsche Drain, I am renting a 1400GTR for a day next week. Can't be doing with an hour or two test ride.  So, looking forward to seeing how my frame copes with hers (the 14 that is).

I am also interested in seeing how my long digits manage the gas handle; looks somewhat slim in the pics.

So pleased I found this forum cos I like it !

Best to all TallRiders
Just because many do it does not make it right. Just because many think it does not make it true.

I've got big hands and longish sausage sized fingers, and I don't find the go switch to be uncomfortable

one extreme to the other springs to mind here! at 12 stone, 5 ft 7inchs and 29 inch inside leg :whistling: I fitted the kawasaki low gel seat on my gtr1400, which is 25mm lower and 20mm narrower which as done the trick for me, "just" the wife reckons an extra "inch" wouldn't go amiss  but I'm happy enough and that's the main thing  what never fails to surprise me, is for such a big tourer weighing approx 315 kg how light and nimble it feels when riding, even at crawling speeds.
getting on now...  but not as old as Rog or Geoff

I wish George! But it will only be a day's hire.  Of course, if it's love at first sight...............................   I can get a further three days for the price of two :biker3:

I also am endowed with the long fingers.
I fitted Grip Puppies to mine which helped.

I fitted bar-risers as well but I found they made me sit too upright.
I have a proper tourer for that (GTR1000) so I sold the bar-risers.
