last week orderd some touch up paint from "bike colours" I've a small chip on the base of the tank under the seat. don't know how it got there, and when the seat is on you can't even see it. but it was playing on my mind, so bought this 3 stage touch up magnesium grey. as anyone used the 3 stage touch up paint for a small chip. there's a base coat, top coat and a clear lacquer, the base coat is a very dark grey, the top coat is a gold orange clitter colour  did not expect the top coat to be this colour. I've built up the grey colour to raise over the chip slightly, will leave it 24 hours to dry. then will t-cutt to a smooth even finish, then will add the top coat and leave that 24 hours then will t-cutt to a smooth even finish, then will add the clear lacquer for the gloss finish, leave 24 hours then smooth down with t-cut to get the smoothest finish as possible. if anyone know's a better way to get a better finish please spill the beans   I can see how this 3 stage paint would work well when it is applied evenly with a spray gun, but I'm not expecting a perfect finish with a touch up brush. so any tips would be most welcome. with the chip being under the seat I'm more concerned about water causing rust to the unpainted service. but at some point I may need to touch up a chip where it can be seen, so this is will good practice to see if a decent finish can be obtained with a touch up brush using a 3 stage paint set up. will let you know how it turns out, if successful and anyone wants either this colour or any other colour, here's the link.. and a pic of 3 stage paint.

Asif   If you fancy some touch up paint for yours, it might be a good idea to attack the bike with an industrial strengh power washer first.       So that you will know which colour to order :smartass:

Please update us as to the results .... I have 2 really minor marks on one of my panniers ... because I keep them on the garage floor and have probably had a knock at some stage ... very small but I know they are there !!  If all goes well I can see a few of us learning from you !

Mr rusty! theses touch up kits are ideal for small scrapes or stone chips  with any minor damage the key is to get the exact colour match, this guy as all the paint codes for all bikes http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/350502312457?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
if you have the 3 stage paint finish like the magnesium grey on my gtr1400 you are never going to get a excellent result, if you have a one stage paint finish with a lacquer over coat then with a little patiences an excepable result can be achieved. so it depends on how fussy you are! I've touch up a few stone chips on my zzr1400 and the result as been good  but that is atomic silver which is just the one stage paint with a lacquer finish. the chip on my gtr was under the seat on the tank and I was not to concearned with it looking perfect because it can't be seen, I was more concearned about preventing rust. suppose due to the chip being out of sight I could have used just a close match paint just to seal the chip. but I bought the 3 stage touch up kit to see if I could get the finish exceptable enough just in case I get any paint damaged where it can be seen. if it's just a small paint chip or deep scrape with a little time and patiences a decent result can be achieved, any larger damaged theses touch up kits for the 3 stage paint finish are not much use, but theses paints can also be bought in aerosol form which would give a much better finish. any damaged to my gtr paint finish that can be seen, it would be my last resort to use touch up paint! first I would try t-cut to remove any light scratches or use the nearest colour match polish with "pigmented resin and wax"which I've used before on minor scrapes and stone chips with good results. like theses product's http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_167625_langId_-1_categoryId_255240                                                                                                                                                                                                          http://www.holtsauto.com/products/group/valeting/colour-polish. but it's well worth buying the touch up paint from this guy who as all the kawasaki paint codes to provide a exact paint match for your bike. you won't get a perfect finish, but this is your best option unless you get the full panel re-sprayed.

O.C.

You could also try here

http://www.rsbikepaint.com/en-gb/colours.php

The website is easy and the company are both knowledgable and helpful.

I've used them on a few occasions as suppliers of paint for classic bikes which are notoriously hard to find a good match

2Kwacks is correct as undercoat/base coats will influence the colour of the top coat
