I'm upset to have just discovered that a fellow colleague PC David Rathband who was shot and blinded by Raoul Moat in 2010 has been found dead at his house in Northumberland.
I don't think any of us can associate what it could be like to be shot in the face at close range with a shotgun and I have to admit I had and still have nothing but immense respect for this man. His life must have been constant pain and anguish not made better by the fact he recently separated from his wife.

Just a normal guy, going to work to put food on the table for his family, what a terrible waste. I have to confess to feeling annoyed at his Force, Northumbria Police for their lack of foresight and apparant support for him over the last eighteen months or so. His own Force recently arrested him after a domestic 'incident', it beggars belief.

I apologise for posting this on a bike forum but I believe there are many on here who will be able to relate to this, I hope the Home Secretary, The Right Honourable Theresa May sleeps well in her bed tonight.

I'm very annoyed and upset as I write this.

Complete respect for him and sympathy for his family, friends and colleagues.

This is sad news.  A sad end to a very sad set of events.

May He now rest in peace.

I hadn't heard about this tragic event, his marriage break down or the unfortunate matter of a "domestic incident" FFS hadn't he had to endure enough.

It is, indeed, very very sad news and I'm sure that his family, friends and colleagues are devastated by this
BE KIND...

The thoughtless act of Mr Moat caused this and many others of lesser import no doubt.

My thoughts are with both his family and his fellow officers who will no doubt be greatly affected by this tradgedy.

RIP.

Just heard it on the radio ... very very sad indeed .... The  photo says it all ... One day it's all happy families and the then it's off to work, never to be the same again.
He must have been a very tormented man in his last days and my thoughts are with his wife, children and peers at work.

Its so sad the effect that that low life had on so many people, wrecking all those lives.
I dread to think what Mr Rathband went though since the shooting.

Rest in Peace Sir.
