Hi guys, Well thought I would never see the day that I would get rid of my treasured 06 fireblade but yesterday was that day. I traded it in on an 07 GTR 1400 in black, and after riding my blade over 300 miles to London to do the part ex and then ride the gtr back to Penzance in the same day and still have a smile on my face when I got back I think the right decision was made. Initial thoughts after riding back are all good (although most was all motorway) handles great , still plenty of power which was a concern I would have after getting rid of my blade, comfotable riding and looks great, Just a couple of downside are with myself being shall we say verticaly challenged I struggle to reach the floor properly when come to a stand, after reading a lot of post on this site i am going to get my seat lowered which will definatly help but was wandering if the bike could be lowered any other way i.e. adjusting suspension? The other thing is its a lot heavier than my blade so will have to get used to that and finally lovely big mirriors but a lot of the view is obscured buy the panniers.
But to sum up after 1st ride i am very pleased and cant wait to get out on some proper touring roads and to hopefully meet up with other guys on this forum for ride outs and meets.

Happy riding  :biker3:

A BIG welcome from me in the Lakes Deano.. this really is an excellent forum with good members and superb advice.... FREE !  :mfr_lol:

You will not regret changing your 06 blade for the GTR which is a stunning bike...It must be said that the GTR is a bike with totally different ambitions than the blade, but it will hold its own when put to the test.

I spose it'll take a little while for you to get used to the GTR which is heavier (obviously) than the Blade, but once on the move it carries its weight low so its very agile.

The seat lowering option is, in my opinion, the best way to sort the 'tip toe' problem. If you lower the suspension then you run the risk of the bike grounding out that much easier, Kawasaki Gel seat is a good option as it is lower and most importantly narrower so it helps a lot. they occasionally come up on here or on fleabay.

There are other lower seat options available and I would suggest you check the  section on here that gives lots of details

Deano,  :185: to the forum. Its no doubt a daunting transition for you going from a sports bike to the GTR, pondering whether you have done the right thing or not but rest assured you have. I also have an 07 plate black GTR and love it to bits.    It's a terrific machine.

Your'e in a great part of the UK for touring, I travel to Cornwall each year and usually stay at Launceston. Lovely part of the world.

Keep visiting us and if you have any questions......just ask.

:185: to the forum Deano. you have chosen the right place to be after becoming a GTR owner, lots of assistance and help should you need it  :help:. Also lots of banter with a bit of a titter thrown in. Enjoy the bike, and the company on here.      Cheers Geoff
What would you rather be   or a wasp?

:185:  Yes Indeed .... Hello Deano .... this is a great place to be so the more the merrier !
Glad you like the bike, it will do the miles you want with ease and comfort. As Mr Wolf says your neck of the woods is lovely and have been down there many times when the children were smaller ... and now they are bigger and gone we still go down there !
Fireblade ? Generally sports bikes are not for me but the blade is one bike I will just have to ride one day .. a test ride to get it out of my system ... I have had Hondas before and love the build quality but switched to the GTR for commuting comfort and all year round use .. it is a STUNNING bike all round and when you get used to the weight, which evaporates when you get going, you will just be smiling all day long ..... enjoy !

Hi Deano and welcome to the forum.

You're best going down the route of getting a lower seat be it off the shelf or a custom one. Personally, I believe the lowering the bike affects the geometry of the bike.

We have the 2012 meet planned in the Cotswolds if you're interested
