Just wondering for those of you with top boxs fitted ,did you all use the rack that came fitted with the 1400 or did youu change to aftermarket ones ,i am going to get either the 39l or the 47l topbox oem but keep reading that the standard rack causes thetop box to wobble.

I have a small, Givi top box and have mounted it on the standard rack. Touch wood, to date I have not had any problems whatsoever. There is no wobble at all, if anything its quite tight.

One thing to bear in mind when purchasing any topbox is its actual size. I dont want to tell anyone how to suck eggs, but generally the panniers themselves will have no adverse effect on the handling of the bike. However stick a large topbox on the bike and all of a sudden you will have problems with the stability of the bike.

The wind will buffet off the top box and can quite dramatically induce a wobble, which if it catches you off guard will rapidly develop into a tank slapper. If you dont believe me give it a go. Get upto a decent speed, even as low as 40 mph will be sufficient and then take your hands off the bars slightly, the bike should run as true as an arrow. Stick the top box on, empty or full it will make no difference and then repeat the exercise. Nine times out of ten, your front end will start to wobble. This is why I always rely on the panniers for any luggage and the small top box I have is used for a such things as maps, spare gloves etc.

if you dont mind me asking how big is the topbox you have lonewolf

I'm not sure what its size is in litres but I can easily get a full face flip up helmet in it.

I can always photograph it on the bike if you like to give you a better idea.

Kawdolph

would appreciate it if you dont mind

As promised, they are a bit grainy because I had the camera on the wrong setting but you get the idea.
Its just fractionally wider than the bike without the panniers on and I havent experienced any instablity in the handling of the GTR at all. Its not to everyones choice I appreciate that but as I said its just large enough for a few nic nacs. Oh, almost forgot to mention, it only cost me £35 off ebay, brand new but old stock. Cant grumble at that!

Kawdolph

thxs for that was looking at getting the swmotech rack and the givi 450 simply case there reduced at the moment cheaper than the kawa boxs and the givi back  rest pad is cheaper aswell

Per avere stabilità serve pure un vero porta bauletto come il mio,in alluminio estruso.
