O.C.

The TomTom on mine has the charging Docking/mounting that I mentioned in my previous thread, and it is that which is wired to the bike.

Good point though MJJ_Z6RR and one which should be checked out.

Lots of pictures of the 2010 model aux leads and how to get them on my site if you want to take a look - http://www.trackandrace.com/workshop and follow the links to the GTR bit.

Very useful. I'm going to put that site in the useful info thread if that's ok

But, and maybe I am missing something here, every SatNav lead I have ever used ends in a male cigarette lighter socket that contains a voltage transformer. If you cut that off, and wire into the bike direct, you will be feeding 12.5V ish into the unit that normally requires about 7V. I doubt it will last long.
Martin.

err maybe I'm missing something instead... When I got the zumo I got a lead with the usual cig end for car (or bike if socket available, yes it is...) AND a hard wire 'kit' with leads and small black box 'in-line' (fuse/transformer....?) on end of wire two bare wires that I want to plug into the aux cable - as per start of thread. When I bought the 2nd kit to put on 2nd bike - I got all the same bits and bobs inc another h/wire kit. + Oh on the zumo  220 the cradle is NOT wired/active the lead (cig end or hard wire) goes into back of unit. Very waterproof looking cover for the cable end when not plugged into the unit.
And finally... took advice and went to Halfords and bought various male/female bullet connectors.... -ok so not stripped bike down yet, but (and its a big but) looking at the pictures in t'other thread - I am not convinced the bullets (red or blue) from halfords will be the correct size :-(     (for the plug into the aux cable on bike, before anyone says that it doesnt matter what size they are
I came, I saw, I rode off....

O.C.

It does matter what size they are, the sizes I quoted were from the container on the seale=y connectors that I have... (I bought a substantial amount cos I use a lot)... but you shouldn't have any real problems finding the correct size to fit your bike.

Something along these lines is a useful kit to have... but you don't need to spend too much... there's loadsa places where you can buy simular kits with crimpimg tool.. in fac I think Maplins do one

Of course, no problem.

As for the OP, I hope I have not confused matters too much with my comment about transformers built into the lighter socket. I should have mentioned that I am still using a car SatNav and a clear plastic freezer bag to keep the rain off - not exactly cutting edge bike SatNav knowledge here

65,000 miles now. Loving this bike.

are the black and black/ yellow aux wires with bullet connectors live all the time (I know the black/yellow is a negative)

ive just connected to them (after extending them with good old idiot proof red and black wires) for my zumo 660 and wanted to know if they time out, go off when engine is stopped or when key knob is turned off etc.

The aux wires are ignition controlled and power off when the ignition is turned off.

cheers for that burchy!!
im using the motorcycle mount that came with the zumo but it doesn't feel right stuck out in the middle of nowhere attached to the clutch lever handlebar clamp.
I suppose its nearer my line of sight and, on the continent,  is in the direction of oncoming traffic which can kill you a bit more.

Invest in one of these.

O.C.

I have a Kawasaki accessory Sat Nav mount that I'll sell you £10.00 + P&P, it mounts to the Yolk and is adjustable and dead solid, I think I also have a ProjectD one somewhere which is stainless steel but would be a tad more pricey.

if you're interested P.M me
