getting on now...  but not as old as Rog or Geoff

Oh dear... at least he was OK and of course the bike will be fixable.. Its interesting that their appears to be a 'darkie' around the same bend where they were filming  ;)

I reckon that was a classic case of target fixation, where the rider was focussed on where he didn't want to end up rather than where he was intending to go [/b

Yup - Before I saw your comment that was my first thought - Target Fixation - you could see him looking at the landing spot!

I have been advised that my use of the word "Darkie" may have or could cause offence to some members on this forum.

I wish to point out that I used this expression as one that I have heard on numerous occasions being used by Journalists and racing commentators alike, it is not an expression that I have created, but one that has been popularised for some time by the motoring press. The truth is that it really had not occured to me that the expression could or would be construed in any other way  :o

I meant absolutely no offence to any individual or individuals either on this forum or in a wider context.

Accordingly I offer my unreserved apologies to anyone who may have or could have been offended by my use of that word.

Not really since you obviously couldn't do anything about it. If he watches this video he must feel real stupid.
The later you brake the longer you go fast.

Well done OC for apologising, but what were you actually referring to? I haven't heard the expression before so need to know what it is in the context of the video clip.
I came, I saw, I rode off....

Nothing to apologise about surely?

It's an expression I use, 'laying a darkie' simply means creating a rubber mark on the road surface through tyre/rubber friction against the rolled stone bitumen grippy surface of the road when the tyre grip trade off exceeds the maximum amount of grip causing slippage which in turn scorches the said surface.

Bit pathetic for someone to take offence IMO

Looks like the rider changed his focus. The bike would have still gone around.

Never heard the term darkie before, either as a racist word or as described above. Will use it on my friend though as we have a laugh at PC gone wrong.

Made himself look a bit of a tulip if you ask me. Anyway what the hell is wrong with people that makes them want to be filmed by their friends, especially if your riding is as crap as his. I do hope that he thinks motorcycling is not for him after that episode, if so I dont think our pastime will be missing too much.
What would you rather be   or a wasp?

WHS. That's a pretty standard expression and used by lots of people.

Okay, so now I know  :D
Just an expression I hadn't heard before
I came, I saw, I rode off....

Rusty

Not counting the days then Winston ??? ;D

Rusty

Just to clear up a couple of things .... the "grippy" stuff that Winston refers to is " hot rolled tarmacadam with inlaid granite chippings " ( that's tarmac to most people ! ) and the D word has been in my vocabulary relating to exactly this scenario for many many years and I have heard it used as such by many many people .... The D if you like is as Winston says, created when there is excessive friction between rubber and tarmac which of course generates huge amounts of energy or heat which temporarily melts the tarmac and draws it to the surface ... it then rapidly cools and leaves a mark on the road ... which everyone wrongly thinks is rubber but is in fact no more than a scorch mark  ......so there you go !
Ps ...I love this forum !  ;D ;D
