OK, second issue, second thread of the day! :)

How smooth does your GTR change gear? I have memories of my test ride bike being so super slick and super smooth that I wondered if I'd even changed gear. My bike is sometimes like this, but most of the time it seems to be a little bit clunky / sticky / notchy when changing gear.

Thoughts?

I have to agree with you here. However it is down to me and not the bike I feel. Mostly the bike is smooth when changing gear but if I'm lazy during the process almost as if I do it in slow motion then yes I can get it to occasionally clunk very quietly. If yours is a noisy clunk and very frequent then get it looked at.

Hi.    how many miles has your bike done?.My bike has done 8.5k now so it has had 3 oil changes using semi synthetic oil and the gear change has vastly improved from when it was new. Also the general fuel consumption has improved with more miles on the clock , often see over 50 mpg on the clock with normal riding.

Cartman

I would agree with Howard, miles really smooth it out, mine hit 5K this very morning and the whole bike just feels smoother over time.
Once you realise we are all mad, life starts to make sense

A little bit of "clunk" from N to 1st but otherwise sweet as a nut ... 11 reg with just under 10000 miles.

cpettifer

About 2.5k miles so far (from memory). Perhaps I'll mention it when it gets 3.5 / 4k service and then see how it is afterwards.

The oil is a factor regular changes are vital every 3 - 4 k, i have an 09 with 31,000k, when cold a slight clunk but warmed up its faultless.
get a grip and deal with it

Lonewolf

Yeah I agree with the above. I changed my oil within the last 100 miles or so and despite there being a nip in the air today the gear changes were smooth and quiet.

Mogster

Now if I could only get a Quick-shift things would be perfect!!! ;D ;D ;D
She is like the Bumblebee, she should not fly....... and yet she does!

GTRTONY

I've had my GTR since beginning of May and have done 8.5K so far and have to report very smooth gear changes. Nothing to moan about with the bike so far... just love it
my previous bike was a 04 Yam FJR1300 which i also loved. went to look at buying an new one of those but go a lot more for my money with the GTR... wise move

Tony
getting there........

mattye

My GTR has 3400miles on it and sometimes the gear changes seem smoother than others. I hope its just down to things still be run in and after the 7.5K service with fresh oil maybe it will be smoother.

pembsgtr

A clunk from N to 1st then its click up with no use of clutch as smooth as you like 5000miles on the bike.

Kwikasfuki

Mine does the occasional clunk going from N but otherwise smooth. I do notice that when the gear oil gets old its not as smooth.

43.5k on the clock.

How do you do this?! I've never tried changing without using the clutch.

You just move yout foot up or down.
The later you brake the longer you go fast.
