i see on one of my topics a certain coment on my 'GTR flying'.....

I shall explain..... on the last trip across to France the riding on the last 20miles or so into Vitre, got somewhat ahem ....'Spirited'  ::) ....beeoooootiful smooth twisty roads, just the place for a big powerful tourer to explore the edges of the tyre, Sooo i basically fooked off..... with a grin so big, me lid nearly spilt...
anyway a local biker on a ZXR750 tagged on behind me and try as he might he couldn't get past, the GTR holds a lovely stable line through the bends, sit it up on the fat tyre and nail it.... bit of flicker on the traction control... and tis like the Millennium Falcon going into hyperspace....wooooohooo!... ;D ;D

later on that day we bumped into this bloke in a bar whilst we were watching the MotoGP practice, he comes up and says 'Bonjour' and in a very 'Allo Allo' accent says how good he thought the GTR was and then comes up with the phrase.

'She is like the Bumblebee, she should not fly..... and yet she does'...... then he brought us all beers ...top fella!
She is like the Bumblebee, she should not fly....... and yet she does!

And his name and address?
What would you rather be   or a wasp?

Lonewolf

I dont think I've ever had mine over 4000rpm. I didn't realise it would go faster! :o

Rusty

Now now Mr Wolf ..... your nose will grow and grow if you carry on like that  ;D

Lonewolf

No seriously, I just cant be arsed half the time when I'm out. Slow and smooth is my motto.  8)

Well, when I said I would try to make her fly I meant that literally.
I did it with a 1250 Bandit so it must be possible with the GTR too.
It's just a matter of finding the right hilltop and open the throttle at the right moment.  ;D
The later you brake the longer you go fast.

Ah!!! now i see... lofting the front off of a crest in the road... my Tuonos favorite game  8)... i assume the traction control would have to be off on GTR  ???....

Nope, the front wheel does not slow down enough in that relatively short time to trouble the traction control. When the rear wheel launches over the same crest however  ;)

I rode the latest ZX10R recently with anti-wheelie as well as traction control. Now that was a stunning piece of electronic control. Throttle absolutely pinned in 1st gear and the electronics keep the front wheel hovering an inch from the ground. Just lovely.

65,000 miles now. Loving this bike.

you said it was the zxr750. so it was that the older model? they first appeared in 1989 with the h1 and h2, 1991/1992 the j1 j2 model brought the u.s.d forks. 1993 to 1995 the j1,j2,j3 where the first with the ram air, 1996 the p1 to p7 which brought the end to the zx7r was one of my favorit bikes of all time, I had the zx7r p6 2002 model which was the last model they made in the excellent zx7r! however I did see a few p7 models on a 2003 plate. but as far as I know, the where no changes after the p6 model. the zx7r from p1 to p7 had twin air-ram intakes, the 6 pot calipers, u.s.d forks and fully adjustable front and rear suspension and without doubt one of the best handleing and planted bikes of its time. but for a supersport it was to heavy and outdated to compete againts the newer 600 supersports that had started to rule the nest! either it be the older zxr750 or the newer zx7r you done dam well to keep this beast behind you on the twisties. technology and a engine twice the size as tamed the beast! and your riding skills ;) and a pic of my kawasaki zx7r p6 ninja.
getting on now...  but not as old as Rog or Geoff

Just lovely, I adore the last of the 7Rs with the black frames.

Always reminds me of Chris Walker spanking one of these things round in the 90s.

Several seasons of clubmans racing and levels 1 to 4 california Race school makes me a tad difficult to pass through the twisty bits..... as Andy Ibbot said on the first day, 'Any fool can go fast in a straight line'....
The GTR is dead easy to ride quickly through the bends as long as you are smooth and allow the bike to settle before opening the throttle.  ;D

I agree in principle that your experience may have kept you in front. on the other hand the guy on the zxr750 may have been crap! ;) only joking mate!! but on a more serious note the both of you most likely have been going as fast as those particular bends would allow. this as happend to me quite a few times. with your experience you have most likely been using the road the most efficient way taking the best line through each bend! which would have made it very difficult for him to pass you. I don't think any off the straites would have give him a break either, in the correct gear at the right revs the gtr1400 as got the pulling power to see off or match most bikes we will come across.

I have a favourite blast route locally that I know pretty well.
A few years back I was hooning along on my GTR1000 and came up behind a GSXR-1000 and after several corners I got bored of waiting for him to get going so I  passed cleanly and went on about my hooning.  ;D
At the end of the road (yes it ends,... at the sea) there is a pub and I stopped off for a fag and a shandy.
A few mins later the Gixxer pulled up and he came over.
He first apologised for holding me up, and then asked for a rematch the following weekend.
Turns out he was running in the Gixxer, was from 2 miles down the road and he also did clubman racing.
We had a laugh and a natter and went our separate ways.

About 2 years later I was hooning again, this time on the 1400, so was hooning a fair bit faster than before.  ;D ;D
This little bike came past me like I was parked and shot off into the distance.
Yup, same bloke on an Aprilia RS250.
He was impressed with the GTR. Said he'd been about 2 corners back for 2 minutes and only caught up when I hit the serious twisties.

The moral of the story is that local knowledge and riding skill trumps engine size and bike model any day of the week.

There is nothing better than kicking the Ass of a sports bike, riding a Bike with a set of panniers on...they can never believe whats really happening to there world ,when you piss all over them...You might look like an old fart...which in all honesty I am, but boy do the GTR go some.
