mate just sent me this clip. this guy on a gtr1400 lost the back end, then tried to correct it, but to no avail! the clip is quite long so may want to fast forward to 26.40

What a bizarre bit of video. After the crash his mate does bugger all to help him. Nice and steady, I'll put my gloves over here where they will be safe, then I'll go and have a chat with the locals, never once did he rush over to check on his buddy.

Not too sure what caused that but it looked pretty nasty. He just seeemed to lose his focus immediately before he lost control, and then it was all over. Do you think his front wheel twitched on the painted centre white line and then he panicked and braked hard causing the back to snake, only guessing but it could be a possibility.

Looks like he tries to lean it over too much in the first instance and has his arse hanging off the seat when there is no need ... it's as if he is trying a bit of "hanging off the bike" to look good on a bend that doesn't require it, tips it upright but overdoes it and starts the wobble from which there is no return ... nice video quality though !

That's probably what the State Trooper said before he wrote the rider a citation.

fast forward to 26.09 did you noticed the tractor with a trailer coming the other way! if the tractor was 36 seconds slower, the gtr would have hit it head on ???

Looks like it happened in Mexico and the locals are already pilfering the boots. :o
The later you brake the longer you go fast.

I've seen this before and am sure I read something about them just going too fast for the corners and there also being some discussion about whether traction control would have helped him or not, seeing as it's a pre traction control model.

he's seems more interested in taking pics and clips on his mobile, and how good his helmet cam works. at the very end of the clip. he takes his helmet off, put's it on his bike and films him self :o

that was the first time l'd seen this clip, so don't know the final outcome? let's hope he had the chance to learn by his costly mistake. suppose it easy to get carried away in the moment! he also new his mate was filming him riding, this most likely contributed to him pushing his limits! am older and wiser now, and refuse to be put under any pressure while am riding. infact I do prefer to ride on my own or riders I know that like riding there's bikes not racing them! suppose that was one of the reasons I got rid of the zx636. I found when I was out on that, I seem to sprout horns. it was light, and the handeling was precise and I seemed to want to race it around all the time! so thought "law of averages" don't know why I felt this way on the zx636. the zzr1400 is a dam site faster and also as precise handeling, but for some reason I tend to take it alot easier when riding it. been told this is a aged thing :(

Now thats dead weird ???.... i've looked at the clip a few times and they don't appear to be going that fast... i agree that it does look as if he lost concentraion and clipped a pot hole.
As far as being leaned over, I've had mine over much further than that, you can easily get ya knee down on teh GTR cos the seat is fairly low if you were wanting to... yes i know it's a touring bike but i had to find out how far it would lean.

If one learns anything from this its..... pay attention to the road in front of you!

the above clip shows the b.m.w 1200gs speedo at approx 110 m.p.h or 180 km/h as the gtr1400 pulls away and soon becomes a dot in the distance. so he may not have been going to fast at the time of the crash but just before hand he was not hanging around either! this why I suggested he may have been "caught up in the moment" also seems to be opening the gtr1400 up as soon as he see's the road opening up, this I asume is for the benefit of the video. just before the crash happend, the road appears to be opening up, it looks like he had the intentions of putting as much distance as possible between him and his mate. he may have been a bit heavy on the throttle to soon, or a patch of oil or diesel may have caused the wheel to loose grip. either way! do you think the traction control on the newer model may have prevented this.

Basically the road surface wasn't good enough for the lean / speed / throttle etc he was doing, which caused the initial slide / wobble. I'd hazard a guess that the road surface was damaged and was either loose on top, or had some kind of surface defect.

I've no idea if traction control would have helped such a situation. My feeling (and it's just a feeling), is that it possibly wouldn't. I guess it depends upon whether the back wheel actually spun up at all before it slipped sideways, or did it just lose sideways traction (where the traction control presumably doesn't help)? Even if it did spin up a bit first, would the traction control kick in fast enough and make enough of a difference to prevent the sideways slide, and / or help with his recovery afterwards?

Secondly, would it of helped on the dirt where he actually fell off / lost the bike? Again, presumably it was the sideways movement of the back wheel that ulitmately caused the accident?
