Do people think it worth  creating a sticky about problems with the gtr1400 and the age/mileage?

future gtr owners could then possibly prevent issues arising by proactive maintrnsnce.  If we see a common theme across the bikes we could then contact kawasaki and give them grief.

What do you all think?

Good idea

Corrosion is one question i have, when viewing used bikes i noticed some had heavy corrosion on the near side engine casing, bevel and caliper bolts, many had it on the radiator, however it didn't seem to be mileage related but may be age? - saw a badly corroded 5K 2007 model, i know have an unbelievably mint 2010 with 11K.

I intend keeping it bathed in ACF50, but do they deteriorate in wet/ winter weather quickly?

Rusty

Last year there were some pictures on this forum showing badly corroded and flakey exhaust which was replaced under warranty .... I have to say ( apologies to you if it was your bike ) but it didn't look as if it had been cleaned since it left the dealer so hardly surprised !
I was a Honda man before I discovered the Gtr and their finish is excellent and from what I have heard K was not good some years ago but have vastly improved their overall finish and paintwork... we now have ACF50 which may help too so I would think if stored in a garage you shouldn't have any problems ... I have a dehumidifier in my garage ... £99 from B+Q some years ago ... goes on in November and off in March ... empty the basket every other day and the garage is markedly warmer/drier ... no good in sub zero temp though so I just switch it off.
Anyway ... yes .. good idea !  ;D ;D

Yes, this a good idea. We all harp on about how good the bike is but we must have noticed one or two niggles with it.

Excuse me - niggles!!!!!!! I thought this bike was perfect  ;)

In principle I think it is a good idea providing that you also a similar section about how good the bike is - so there is a balanced view otherwise people may get the impression that there are a lot of "negative" things about the bike when in reality most of us would say there are very few if any niggles.

There are only solutions

Kevin

I have to confess our GTR stays mostly in the garage during the Winter and we use the FJR which seems to tolerate the conditions better.

I'm old enough to know better but don't

LR, if you were referring to mine, no need to apologise  ;D - I do resemble that comment. The bike gets professionally valeted and ACF protected at the start and end of winter, and in between, well lets just say I am not out there polishing every evening  ;)

I have also had the rear shock replaced under warranty as the pre-load adjuster had siezed. Both the shock and the exhaust were replaced when the bike was 12 months and 16k miles old.

65,000 miles now. Loving this bike.

GTRPete

Same happened to my exhaust when the bike was 6 months old.  Replaced under warranty

My rear shock aduster has also siezed.  Just phoned dealer where I bought it and they told me they are having a few of these - mainly high mileage commuters.

Looks like my entire shick is being replaced - nice....

I think I will get the front springs replaced at the same time and hey ho - almost a new bike again!

So.... if a sticky is a good idea - how is it done and who is going to do it?

Rusty

Martin .... THEY WERE the pictures !!!!!  ;D ;D ;D ;D
