General Discussion / should I go for progressive spings
December 02, 2016, 02:47:54 PM
Hello all.
Has anybody fitted progressive springs to their GTR. My forks are out this weekend and wondered if progressive is the way to go.My driving style is fast touring mainly and bike has done 42 000 miles. Also planning to use 5w oil as standard. I am 6ft 3in and a massive 17 stone.
Any brands of sting to recommend or avoid.
Any ideas cheers ozzmotor.

1400GTR Discussion / Re: Mirror glass removal
August 19, 2015, 07:21:27 PM
Hello Again.
the RH one is cracked. I'm planning to replace just the mirror if poss. If it comes out  I will by a second hand one and extract mirror. Failing that I will made a new one from a cheap mirror black using the cutter and meths trick. Whichever I do I would still be easier with the mirror removed

1400GTR Discussion / Mirror glass removal
August 17, 2015, 07:18:32 PM
Hello all.
Does anybody know if the mirror glass can be removed from the swivel in the wing mirror housing. Mine shattered when I was trying to adjust it. Its perfect apart from that so only the glass needs replacing.

hello all.
As I has said on previous posts I had this issue also on my 2007 GTR.  no problem in the UK but a nightmare in the ALPS .I wanted to cure this before this years trip.I fitted a reconditioned slave cylinder, the old one was actually fine. These units are twats to get off so i ended up tapping the 3 holes out to M8 thread and jacking it out against washers after breaking out the plastic spacer out.!!!!! Be warned and be careful. It would be easy to cause expensive damage removing slave.
The clutch felt exactly the same. bearing in mind the I was only at 500 feet above sea level in the UK
Next I fitted a reconditioned master cylinder with genuine parts(£39}. This made a massive difference to the clutch feel, even in the UK..a different animal. In all cases I bled the system from the bottom up with a giant syringe.
I have just returned from the Pyrenees and the clutch was fine up to about 2000m.
In my opinion, in my case the issue was the master cylinder and seals. Slave was fine and in good condition and the system was always air free. Also I still have the OEM rubber  hoses fitted to the bike. It was like the master was not refreshing the fluid charge on release of lever and got vaguer the higher I went. No fluid boiling, no engine heat.
As I didn't have the liberty of doing one thing at a time and driving up a mountain to prove if the issue' I can't say for sure, but I work as a  mechanical  engineer with hydraulic systems and that's where my money goes.

Hello there.
I have had exacly the same issue with my 2007 GTR . Clutch would get worse the higher I when. At top if I pumped the clutch full operation returned sujesting air expanding. Has this issues cause been identifed as I am going the Switzerland in May and would like to rectify.

General Discussion / fork oil change
March 21, 2015, 12:14:47 PM
Hello again gents.
I'm thinking of changing the fork oil on my GTR before 12 days in europe . The service book makes this look like a dealer job with forks being removed. Has anybody done this themselves. Is it a DIY job. What is the service schedule for fork oil. At 31 000 should I be worried. Was serviced by dealer for first few years.

General Discussion / Re: Pressure Sensors
March 15, 2015, 02:12:47 PM
Hello again gents.
Got it working.........I taped it to back wheel put bike on center stand started engine and put in 4 gear . Unit come up at 0 psi. If i had thought about it a bit harder i would of figured it would of had accelerometer in sensor so olny active when bike is in motion.
Cheers gents.

no reading at all. i was thinking that it would at least give a flat tyre warning to prove some sort of connection

General Discussion / Re: Pressure Sensors
March 15, 2015, 10:37:30 AM
Hello gents.
I've just fitted a new battery into a tyre sensor.checked voltage ,fine at 3.16v I when for a ride with the sensor in the tank storage compartment thinking that the bikes system would find it. After 15 mins it did not connect or register. Will these units only work in the tyre or can they be tested outside the rim.. .
This sensor was broken off by a tyre fitter but internals look good, i just swapped out broken stem and plastic. so this unit has not been on bike for nearly 2 years now, so only rear had sensor.
Has anybody got any ideas....Im thinking about taking them both out and just fitting plain valve stems

The highest was stelvio. It felt like air had got in . But no fuild was lost. If at the top i parked up and pumped lever full use would return. It happened 10 times in 12 days.
Clutch has been blead and feels fine now..but it did at low alt. Im thinking sucking air or sticking master cylinder seal caused by pressure drop. But i have never heard of anything like it before. Winter strip i think!!!
Thanks for reply

General Discussion / High alitude clutch failure
July 21, 2013, 10:04:24 PM
Has anybody heard of clutch failing at high alitude with lever going to the handle bar with no effect at the top, but recovering on the way down.. It has been blead with no air found. Just done 3000 mile trip of europe with no other issuses........except on high passes. Is there another cause for this happening. Now I am back in the Uk I don't suppose that I will find a hill high enought to retest.
  Any ideas OZZMOTOR

1400GTR Discussion / suspension maintenance
May 17, 2013, 07:08:18 PM
Hello Every body.
I am taking delivery of a 2007 GTR next week and want to understand if the bike has any weaknesses. Does anybody know if the rear suspension arrangement need any special care ie  stripping and greasing intervals to prevent bearing /bush/pin failure as the FJR suffers from. My bike has 25000 on the clock and I can't see any evidence that it has been done. Are there nipples to aid this.Should I be worried.
