Please excuse my idiotic question but  do you need any relays with these or can you just fit extra wires in to the existing horn wiring for these to work ??  (I'm an electrical dunce)

The original horn has a relay but it's "upstream" (closer to the horn fuse/battery) than the connectors that clip onto the horn. So no, you dont need an additional relay for these. You can wire the two together as shown here - in electricians parlance is called "wiring the two in parallel". Each horn will see half the total available circuit current, but if the mechanics of the replacement horn are better than the shitty original, then you end up with a better sound. As others have posted though, it will never be as good as the air horns (which seem like a dog to mount on the GTR and draw even more current - that's why they need a separate relay).

It happens to all of us.  I rode yesterday and my left foot was in pain the whole ride (plantar fasciitis).   And then it hurt worse last night.  Probably have to go to a dr about it at some point.  When I can't ride without pain, then it's a convertible for us.

Hey, Hurricane here from Downunder. I was diagnosed with Plantar Fascitis in left foot just yesterday, immediately after a bout of Sciatica in right hip/lumbar area. I think the left foot problem came as a result of stressing the right foot while holding right hip secure during sleep and driving, and before this daily riding to work and a 2 month/10000km ride through Europe late last year (the left foot holds all the weight and rotation of on/off bike). My ride in Europe was not much lighter than the GTR (new BMW R1200RT) so I didn't get much respite (have to say, not as quick as GTR of course but definitely a better choice in the Alps!). Back to topic - my brother has this Plantar thing as well, and his podiatrist gave this advice - rest (stay off the bike!) for a while, Voltaren Gel cream 4 times a day, and while sitting, roll the foot back and forth on a plastic drink bottle full of (iced) water for a long time. Take anti-inflammatory painkillers such as Voltaren rapid every 4-6 hours - after a week or so the foot should come back to normal. Other exercise == anything that stretches the hamstrings and the tendons into the foot along the arch into the toes. Good luck!

Hi all. My first post in some time. Wondering how some of you might deal with this? I have a Starcom1 fitted underseat to my bike, wired to Garmin Zumo 660 and a UHF wireless unit (we don't have the PMR radio bands per se here in Australia), with left bar mounted PTT switch. I use this setup mainly because I hate the prospect of having to interface the radio via the large, bulky Sena SR10 radio interface unit. What I'd really like to do is connect Starcom1 to my Sena 20S Bluetooth headset via the Starcom1 Wire3 unit, if it pairs reliably (problem being that the Starcom1 unit and Wire3 would ideally be under seat - but that's a pain in the butt when it's time to pair the headset to the Wire3 module, due to having to take the seat off each time. If any of you have experience with the reliability of pairing the Wire3 with the Sena 20S, please advise, either good or bad experiences. If good, I'd consider extending the connections to a spot outside the rear seat (maybe back behind the seat under the top box carrier somehow) to ease that pain. Any thoughts?

Interesting.  Every new bike sold in the US has to have them.  What you said about the confusion they may cause makes sense.  Shame that our law makers aren't as well informed; don't get me started!!

From 'down under' everything about lights in the US is weird! Here we are very similar to the UK... (don't get me started on 'antiquated rules!).  Back to the topic. WHY are indicators on vehicles in the US red (a brighter red maybe, but still red) than running lights at the back - rather than something 'different' such as 'amber'? Makes no sense to me!

No, the mirrors are wider than the panniers... Any bike where the panniers are the widest point is nigh on suicidal when filtering in traffic.

Cheers

Paul B.

+1 : The mirrors are about an inch wider than the panniers. If you happen to have the 'rear canyon cages' on the GTR (the 'crash bars' that can protect the panniers) that will add almost an inch to the width at the rear - but then, if you're filtering and find the mirrors dont hit car mirrors, you will be OK!

have you noticed any excessive wea on the discs ?

Not at all - in fact the wear on them is way less than the originals were (done more K's now on the EBC's than I had on the originals when I had to swap them after the morons at the shop I bought the bike from put new (crap) pads on and fitted them wrongly (they were cheap crap Ferodo pads but shouldn't have worn to the backing plate in 5000km!). Bottom line is - there are too many crap service people in the shops here and it's hard to find a good one - looks like I should start doing more work on the bike myself - if I wasn't so time poor!. And, I will always now spend a little more and use EBC.

Just done shy of 100 miles on new front EBC discs and pads. Very impressed so far and this is during the break in period. The discs aren't cheap at £300 for the pair, but beats paying £600 for the Kawasaki ones (and then pads on top)

I'll update in a few weeks when they are fully bedded in

:agree: EBC discs and pads are the duck's guts. I put these on mine at 39000km and now at 78000, and very little wear on the disks and about half way through on the pads. Happy days! Bought them from the US before our $ fell against it - it would be pricey now! Would never put the Chinese crap on!

If you want to keep the way it was even if turning ignition off : push the windscreenbutton when turning ignition iff , it will stay in same position

If in doubt... disconnect battery -'ve terminal. All settings will default, and start again!

Exactly!!!! I owned a GS last year... fookin waste of money that was!... FJR..HOW MUCH!!!!! ??? Moto Guzzi sooooo very slooow... oh and before anyone points to the BMW... go into a dealers, order one and then wait for the salesman to say 'Would sir like wheels on his Bike?... they are of course an optional extra' 8)

Not much price differential between new FJR1300 and new GTR1400 here in Aus (in fact, FJR is cheaper). And it comes standard with electronic suspension adjust and cruise control. Not laving my GTR behind just yet, but 'just sayin'

Sorry to all those (Particularly Big Alan!) for not responding to your Q on price of the unit here in Oz. It's below. I cant believe it's been a year since I've been on the forum - else I would have looked it up for you. Has your mate been over to UK yet from Melbourne? - if not, well, it's not too late!.

$1,085.00 AUD
(10% GST will be added in the cart for Australian orders only)

I want to replace the vacuum servo with Electronic type (dont know the cost for the changeover) as that will save me some space under the covers so I can add more bits (like a louder horn). The Vacuum servo type has two components - the servo itself and a piece of plastic conduit with a valve in it to act as a pressure vessel.

First I've heard/seen of it from the US side...  Mind if I grab the pics and submit them to my forum?

No problems, please do. And, BTW, the rear crash bars I'm talking about are from the US. Cant remember where from, but they're called 'rear canyon cage' or something like that...

Particularly the left side (always gets the pillion full load on getting on the bike). The crappy little U-shaped brackets (not full length) - and not much more than 'tack' welded rather than good gusseting - shouldn't happen. My bike is a 2012, 77500km on the clock, but only about 6000km of this would be 2-up. Sure, I have the rear 'crash bars' (pannier protectors) which I use as close-in leverage to help bike onto centre-stand, but even so, the brackets should be designed better and welded better, ie, full-length 100mm+... not 20-25mm long in two places. Attached are some pics...  If there is such a precedence, what did Mr K do for UK owners (I'm in Australia)

My bike has suffered the same fault as Kwikasfuki's bike, in that the bracket that guides the screen has snapped off, I am using a Cee Bailey large screen and the bike has done 18,700 miles.

Sods law, the extended warranty has expired and it looks as if I am going to have to pay for any repair, so with this in mind, has anyone managed to buy one of these brackets and if so how much?

I have removed the part and I am going to try and get it welded back together, but I think this is a long shot, plus it looks as if the nylon bush has gone missing when it failed.

I am of the opinion that this part is not fit for use so I am going to approach Mr Kawasaki and hope for some help towards the costs of a new part, and ask if later ones have been made more robust.

Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated,  thanks!

Ps Bigger screens = more force so be prepaired for this to fail if you have one fitted.

Thanks for the heads' up. I too have the larger Cee Bailey screen (like most, I think the standard screen is a joke) - and am at some point expecting this to happen. I bought the bike in Feb 2013 with 2500km and now have 77,500km on it - so far so good. What can I do before it happens to strengthen? Any advice would be appreciated!

3 years on mine so far (and 77000km), always in the Oz sun while parked at work, no such issues. I do however have the upper fairing screw mounts (on the mirror assemblies) break around where the rubber mount nuts go - general consensus here also that I over tightened them . Anybody else have this issue?  :ohplease:

Hi!
I'm considering taking my 2012 GTR over to Europe/UK in 2016 or 2017 for an extended trip. And hopefully catching up with Ulysses Club members there while I'm riding. My bike has Starcom Digital fitted with a UHF set (5 Watt GME TX6150, 80 channel, 476.425-477.4125MHz). Is this a useable (legal) band, and if not - what would I need and how readily are they available - don't want to be wasting too much time off the bike when I arrive! Anybody that has any info, much appreciated! Not just the radio, but what cable will I need to fit to the Starcom. Thinking just a handheld, fitted to the existing ram mount.
