A couple of times I've been shown as a car on the toll system. Just press the help and shout 'moto' and that gets the right price. Category 5 springs to mind

The Market / Re: Needed : New headlight

thanks for that Paul.  I do wonder and once you have it, I can imagine thats its a bugger to sort out a refund etc
I'll keep looking but there doesnt seem to be many around and I dont fancy the new price from Mr K so at some point I may need to use Ebay though will try to avoid those outside of the EU

it seemed fairly deep but I didnt check it overly closely as I was pretty mad.
Will look later
Mr Wolf, does your plan to get a cheap one involve some spanners and wire cutters in the night ?

Big Alan. Saw the yellow gtr at the breakers early Saturday but the headlight had gone.

Thanks for your help
My own fault. Keen to get out so perhaps not enough care and probably caught stand slightly on way out of garage. I have moved the windscreen wash bottles off the floor where they seem to congregate.

Thanks for the responses.
Tried calling a few breakers but the GTR isn't a common model so no luck.
One recommended partfinder for £1.99 but no joy.  See a French seller on eBay so a little closer if it doesn't fit.
Still kicking myself after 3 days.

The Market / Needed : New headlight
August 08, 2016, 10:18:47 AM
I haven't been able to use the bike much this year so took the chance of a 3 hour trip on Friday night.
Moving the bike out of the garage the side stand must have been hit so when I lent it over, it gave way pulling me onto the bike and running the headlight down the wall edge.  Nice gouge across the light so replacement needed.
I've looked on eBay and they seem to be from China or £350.
Does anyone have a unit they could sell ?  Has anyone used a Chinese headlight and do they tend to fit ?
Cheers

Accessories, Farkels and Mods / Re: Aftermarket Can
April 22, 2016, 04:43:11 PM
some of the after market cans dont look massively different than the standard one.  I've got a Beowulf fitted which is shorter and carbon wrapped and it sounds great.
I love tunnels and wide bridges where I give it a bit of a blip or go down a couple of gears.
It also weighs a fraction of the original which is siting in the garage providing a valuable home to the spider population

1400GTR Discussion / Re: Average tank range?
April 18, 2016, 04:55:39 PM
Over the last few years I've been over to Ireland a handful of times which is a mix of motorways, A roads and some country lanes.  Its been over 200 miles to a tank but thats a fully brimmed one done on the main stand

General Discussion / Re: Insurance Renewal
November 05, 2015, 03:41:25 PM
as well as the mad pricing structure as demonstrated earlier, the issues I have are the differnt levels of cover between the companies making it hard to compare the prices.
In the end I compile a list of 'must haves' and just use that
Once I have quotes tha match that, I thn base it on paying claims and them price
I'd rather them settle my claim than save £50 a year
As each call is quite lengthy, I'm tempeted to get the other half to do the calls at renewal time

Hi, when over in France I use my Garmin 660 in hire cars and my partners as her car sat nav doesnt have euro mapping as its a works car. The Garmin also goes on the bike with the bike mount.
When over in france a couple of months ago I nearly missed my flight as a road had been closed due to works and two cars getting tangled in the cones.
I've looked at the Garmin site and the GTM21 seems to fit the bill for the car so I ordered one with the France subscription from a helpful chap in Peterborough via that well known increasingly chinese based auction site.
So far so good.
Next year I'm looking to spend more time in France on the bike with it occassionally being left at airports and did think that the same traffic info would be useful for closed roads, accidents and a few other issues.  Filtering is good but the orignal sat nav route and arrival time is based on normal road speeds and not filtering speeds.
Having been at the Swiss border in July and September, I do appreiate that some bikes filter at normal motorway speed limits so it wont be an issue for some.
From what I can see, the GTM21 only fits the car mount and some sites recommend the GTM12
Has anyone had any experience of using these in the car or on a bike

my previous insurer demanded that I fit Thatcham approved locks or chains no matter where the bike was.
If not fitted, they wouldnt pay out
Not much of a bind in the garage at home but a bit of a faff when stopping for a tea and sarnie.
In the conversation with them they told me that its about slowing the thief down and making them look at the next bike in the tea room car park.
When at home I use thatcham approved alarmed disc locks in an alarmed garage attached to the house and they are probably there to make me feel a bit better rather than stop a thief who comes with a portable angle grinder
when I'm out I'm usually not far from the bike or its in a sensible spot with people passing etc.

Introductions / Re: Gtr advice
July 02, 2015, 11:54:41 AM
I've a 2010 and its a great bike and one I'd recommned
no issues in the last 3 years, runs really well, lots of power, comfy, good load lugger etc
changed the exhaust for a Beowolf one for the sound and look and fitted HID lights which aid night time driving
buy and enjoy !

well done
it will need to get into double figure for me to venture out though I did think about it today as the sun was shining though it was only 2.5c

On the Ride front, I was one of the contributors on the article they did a while ago on the GTR.  Nice chap doing it and the reviews seemed fair

General Discussion / Re: Insurance time again.

Happily I have a few more months to psyche myself up to enter the renewal battle.

Having read the posts and thought about my experiences over the last few years, you tend to get a good price one year and then they try it on the next and then stiff you the year after that.
They hope that the hassle of getting quotes, especially for bikes with different exhausts etc, or worse still, more than one bike, will put you off and you'll stay.
They also make comparing the levels of cover difficult to keep you onboard especially on things like euro cover.
Throwing pointless extras that you'll never need also seem the standard.
The main issue that has been raised is that what happens when you are unlucky and have to claim on the policy.
That is the point when saving £50 going through a foreign call centre with a co no one has heard of, doesnt seem a good saving.
On the MCE front, I was with them quite happily until they tried to stiff me on the premium.  The calls to their call centre nearly cost me one years cover
