1400GTR Discussion / Re: Wiring the sat nav

Use the accessory connectors under the left hand cover. If you put your hand under the left hand cockpit cover ( the black panel as you look from the riders position) you'll find a round open ended plastic tube covering the wiring. Inside the tube will be two bullet connectors, one ignition live, one earth. They are provided to connect your sat nav etc to. It saves you cutting into wiring.

It's at this point I realise I have very few pics of the back of my bike, however this one should give you an idea. 3M reflective panel and cut it yourself. The panels are self adhesive and if you use this type of shape the pannier surfaces are all flat so there are no problems with it lifting. Just clean the panniers with a solvent before you stick them down.
Of course the cheap way is to use some offcuts if you know anyone who might use this type of material :whistling:

Not sure that Derbyshire qualifies as a hot state?
Just looked out of the window, I can confirm it's definitely not a hot state!!

Mines a 2010 and like Boomer said I can't slide the wheel clear of the splines with the hugger in place. Mine might be a Skidmarx mind!

I've had both on mine since shortly after it was new (2011) Both good products, top quality, easy to fit and lasting well. You will need to remove the hugger to get the rear wheel out though, there's no way round it!

About 2 thousand miles. Not a lot for a front tyre to be showing uneven wear.

Two punctures in my rear PR3 one in the first few miles which was repaired and lasted the life of the tyre and then in May on a Bank holiday Sunday in the middle of Scotland. Deep Joy! I repaired it myself and finished off the holiday but had to replace it when I got back.
On a different note, has anyone had problems with the PR3 front tyre wearing unevenly and causing very wobbly handling at low speed? Mine's like a shopping trolley with a wonky wheel at the moment. I haven't changed the suspension settings or loading and the bearings are fine, so I can only think its the front tyre? Its not heavily worn, just uneven on the shoulders.

1400GTR Discussion / Re: Linked braking question
November 07, 2013, 10:33:09 PM
I have a 2010 GTR and ride lots of FJR's. In isolation the FJR is not a bad bike, I find it vibey, with a strange habit of "dropping in" when slow speed maneuvering and it feels like bikes I had years ago. Just my opinion and I know several people who own them and love them.
The GTR however is a whole different ball game, it's all been said before but the bottom line is, take one for a decent test ride. Not easy because there aren't many dealers who keep a demo and second hand ones are hard to find. Make sure, the front tyre isn't worn though, that can sometimes upset the handling and you won't get a true feeling for what the bike can do.
As for linked brakes, the GTR is no more or less linked than an FJR, ride them all like you've never heard of linking and you can't go wrong!

Accessories, Farkels and Mods / Re: Bagster Tank Cover
October 17, 2013, 10:21:40 PM
I would second that. They don't look right. No offence to anyone who has one! I used Ventureshield on mine I used a full kit which covers the tank pretty much anywhere you would catch it with clothing or your knees, as well as anything else on the bike which faces forward, then made some extra sections up for the tank top around the filler cap where my tank bag could catch it. It takes time to fit it, but if you make a good job you need to look really hard to see it's been done and maintains the looks. IMO obviously!

Hi

I have the Scorpion fitted. In fact they built the system for the GTR on my bike last year. Sounds really good without being overly loud. I run mine with the baffles in, I don't particularly want it loud anyway. The fit is neat and the can looks spot on. Can't really fault it! Nuff said! This is a pic I took on top of the Puy Mary last June during our trip down through France and Spain.

Its the TFL cool coating that causes the problem. It reacts with sunlight and fades the dye. Other suits using the same coating all have the same problem. I've had my suit replaced once but the trousers are now as bad again and the updated ones only have one pocket! Whats that about! I've decided to live with the fading rather than have the new trousers. I wouldn't be happy if I'd paid for them!!

Rukka Armax is good kit, no question but prices are ridiculous. I have Rukka for work and its good, although its all gone patchy purple, as have a lot of others, but I have Halvarssons kit for my own and to be honest its at least as good. To be honest it works better than Rukka in extremes of temperature as well so at less than half the price I know where my money would go!

I had my K1200R sport done at Hilltop, Geoff took it from 101bhp on the first run to 147 in the end with a corresponding increase in torque. It was like having a new bike, the original map was either corrupted or a French map. It should have been about 137 to start with. When it went for service the technician at BMW said it was the best K series he'd ever ridden, including the 1300's.
So in short I can heartily recommend Hilltop to anyone who feels the need for tuning. Mine will be going as soon as its out of warranty.

I had one of these from my last bike and it fitted the GTR but was too close to the back of the tank for my liking. You have to seat it well back because of the shape of the bag. In the end I sold it and fitted one of the GIVI Tanklock bags which was bigger and also had a flatter base. That seems to fit really well and they are slightly cheaper so worth a look.

+1 for the laminar lip on a standard high screen (which yours should have already on a 2011 model.) I'm 6ft and use the standard seat. The GTR is a bit noisy compared to some tourers but for me the airflow is smooth wherever the screen is set.

As for lowered footpegs, have a look at projektd.com They work really well for me. You can also fit the rubber topped pillion foot pegs from an ER6 for better grip for your pillion, they're a straight swap. Best bought second hand though cos they're about £90 a pair new.
