perhaps you can post a link to the informative information mentioned, I did a search and it does not reveal much detail.  :ninja:

Looks to me that most need to move to the Versys or a BMW forum  :mfr_lol:

The Market / A suggestion

Lots of very old posts here, would it not be a good idea for Admin to delete all posts that are no longer current as they are not really adding any value?

It would be good if users were able to delete their own posts, ie once stuff has been sold? However I do not think that there is a 'delete' function!?

Just a thought.

photobucket really screwed up lots of Forums. I can understand that they wanted to introduce a charge, but I think £300 a year for a single user was crazy, £5-10 would have been OK. Anyway too late now and I think most of the photobucket users have departed.

Agree, the test of a dealer/shop/supplier is all about how they deal with the issue in question.

I generally find that I prefer to do my own maintenance where ever possible these days, cheaper and a better job ;)

2017 was the last picture posted, looks like this GTR forum is starting to dry-up? I guess the model run has ended in the UK and the Versys and H2SX are the new kids on the block  from Kawasaki. Strangely I am going backwards as the GTR meets my requirements ;)

Lonewolf, looked like an excellent write up unfortunately all the pictures have gone, was these part of the photobucket policy change?

The problem with the fixed intercoms vs the bluetooth, if that if you save a couple of bikes then it is not easily transferable between the two.

Most suspension oil is getting tired after 10,000 miles and would benefit from being changed. I have fitted Hyperpro progressive springs to many large Kawasaki and at the same time changed the front fork oil, rear shock oil and re-gassed the rear with nitrogen, the combination of which has transformed the bikes handling. Many go for a new rear shock on bikes but I find an overhaul of the existing rear shocks just as effective and doing it yourself works out at a fraction of the cost.

Has anyone tried the Hyperpro springs on their GTR?   My GTR has low mileage and is the later edition with the stiffer rear spring, so I will leave it as standard for now until I have had the chance to rack up some miles.

I just wondered what others have done to their GTR in the suspension department, especially the high mileage boys?

BMW certainly charge for their services, here are some pictures on what I discovered when I came to service my GSA.... (I have bought the software to do the diagnostics and reset the service indicator, however I may sell the BMW shortly)

The drain plug washer was cut (incorrectly fitted), the shaft drive over filled and the drive shaft split totally dry... to name a few issues.

Not impressed!!!  The bike was 'maintained' by one of the so classed top BMW dealers.

Accessories, Farkels and Mods / Re: GTR fork seal tool

The problem with the GTR is the mudguard can hide a multiple of sins, this is what I found on mine on both sides

The fork legs can be polished up and it is important that pits do not form as it will cut the seals. In the chaps video he should have cleaned up the dust seal with the tool also, as this is more than likely holding dirt as particles have to pass the dust seal to get to the oil seal.

I cleaned my front up, repainted all the brackets and bolts and brought it back to 'as new condition'. Maintenance in this area should not be overlooked ;)

Well done Burchy. What will have happened is you have had some dirt trapped in the seal, the tool effectively dislodges the particle(s) that is causing the issue. Feeler gauges work also but you need to be super careful not to cut the seal. I had a similar issue with a WR450 at the start of a 5 day Enduro event . I was really in trouble however another rider passed that tip on to me and the forks lasted for the whole event.

I have the upside-down fork tools and also fork seal drivers bought recently. As you were kind enough to provide me with the electronic manual, I would be happy to overhaul your forks for you but you would have to come up to my place (all the tools are here), just bring new dust and oil seals plus some oil. I have done about 6 sets of forks for various people over the past few years. Your forks may be fine, but the offer is there if you wish to take me up on it. I think I am about 60-70 miles from you.

Yep the mobile is certainly going to take over, look at 'Apple Car Play', just connect your phone and you have full GPS and functionality - this is becoming standard on all new cars. I bet this will come to motorcycles in the near future.

I have had just about every TomTom Rider GPS, the 550 is by far the best and a much needed update on the previous models. It has WiFi capability, so no need for wires to get updates direct from your phone if needed. I find if you sell your current GPS on eBay as soon as the next model is released, you get a crazily high price and it only costs about £50 to upgrade to the latest model.

My view is Garmin is best for circumnavigation the globe by sea  (the name taken after some famous chap I believe ), or for piloting your aircraft (I can only afford a model aircraft unfortunately- there are some rich fellows on this site), or crossing the desert where there are no defined roads and you can add OS maps etc... The Garmin has loads of functionality most of which I never use. The TomTom cannot touch Garmin in that respect. However for road use the TomTom has the edge by miles as that is what its primary design scope is all about, and works for me.

:biker3:

Now I just need to start a thread to say that the Slate Blue 2016 model is the best colour, that should get people participating and active LOL.

Introductions / Re: New to the GTR1400

I have been to Ypres about 10-12 times already, but thanks for the guidance guys. I am only an hour from the tunnel and go over to France / Belgium 6-8 times a year. It is just £28-£30 return on the tunnel  for a night,  so better than going to the South Coast of the UK.

Lille is one of my favourite places.

Maybe a GTR meet up for a beer when the weather breaks next year so long as Brexit does not scupper  us LOL ?
