General Discussion / Re: helmet advice
March 17, 2014, 08:52:39 PM
Hi, I've got he HJC R PHA max flip up, Nick Sanders endorsed it. I'm really happy with it and it's a quiet helmet. I always wear ear plugs but its much quieter than my Caberg Justissimo (sold it). I also have a Shoei XR 1000. Its really quiet. Not much between the XR1000 and my HJC at all.

1400GTR Discussion / 2013 Triumph Trophy 1200
February 17, 2014, 08:08:46 PM
Hi, I've had the GTR 3 years now and can feel that old thing starting again, 'might change the bike' Nothing wrong with my GTR, almost as new condition only 9000 miles. A dealer near me has two Trophy's for sale, just wondering if anyone has had a test ride and can offer a comparison before I take a closer look. I know it won't be as powerful as the GTR but the reviews on You tube say it handles really well and I know it's very well equiped. I have the 2009 GTR so no heated grips / traction control. I makes no sense to change my bike but, you know what it's like, once that wee notion gets a hold.

Thanks, Donald

General Discussion / Re: Railway Man

I read the book a long time ago. I've not been to see the film yet. I've just finished a book by Alistair Urquhart called the forgotten Highlander. He was on the death railway, the Hell ships, torpedoed, re captured and taken to Japan, get this, 10 miles from the second atom bomb. I have to admit, after reading what the Japanese done to the POW's I was on bike trader ready to flog the GTR and buy the new Trophy. I've calmed down now.

1400GTR Discussion / Re: Leaking fork seal.

Kirkcaldy Kawasaki told me that Kawasaki wouldn't do the job. The price was including two hours labour, so, seals will be about £20, don't know how much the oil is but even if I guess that seals and oil might be about £40 it adds up a hell of a price for tw hours work.

I contacted my nearest Kawasaki dealer after remembering that I had the extened warranty. They won't do the job as it's a wear and tear item. Quoted me 250 - 300 for the job. No thanks, local bike mechanic will get the job.

1400GTR Discussion / Leaking fork seal.

On a run today my mate spotted a leaking fork seal. I cleaned the bike yesterday and it was fine. Has anyone else had their fork seals done?. Can it be done without a major strip down of the failing? Thanks.

Just back from my first excursion to the Dales. What a great time we had. 16 of us hit Hawes staying at Cocketts Hotel, The Fountain and The Bulls head. All the lads thought the accomodation was great. I was at Cocketts and it was first class. We had the side wind from hell yesterday but it was great to be so high up in the dales. We took in the waterfall behind the pub just outside Hawes where they filmed Robin Hood. Had a pint in the bar after. It was great with the fire on and all that atmosphere. Today we went to Devils Bridge and the star of the whole trip was the Hartside cafe. Today was warm, sunny and calm. A really good change from the north west of Scotland. The bends on the way up to the Hartside caught me out though, they come thick and fast, I think I'm turing in too early and have to re adjust. Doesn't help when your mate who's a speed junkie sits right up your tail all the way there right enough.

All the best, Donald

PS, some of the dudes on the Ducatis down there don't have go for it, it was like the TT in places

Have a good day, I'm afraid I can't make this one but I'd be up for meeting up later in the season. As it is 17 of us are heading to Hawes on Monday 29/4

I went to the show, even managed to blag a few free tickets fomr a mate who was showing some bikes. I had a good day and even met Chris Walker on the Kawasaki stand. The only thing that concerns me is the amount of basic market traders who now attend selling non bike stuff. There was a wee oriental women selling dresses!
I had a seat on the new Triumph Trophy, I was very impressed with it. It's quite a wide bike right enough. I also had a look at the new FJR, seems really good but reminds me of my old 2004 FJR too much.

Well Old Coney, I'll remind you nearer the time, can't wait for the better weather. I was actually out on my bike today, roads up here were bone dry. I'll get the oil and filter done soon. Have you seen the wee video on youtube, 'kawasaki Concours 14 oil change in 5 minutes', pretty good

Thanks, Donald
