Hi folks, my mates and I are hoping to head down to either Hawes or Harrogate late this April. I usually organise our runs to the North of Scotland but I've never been south. Can anyone recommend decent accomodation. One chap said the Cairn hotel in Harrogate but it's a fortune. Any suggestions would be appreciated. The lads won't camp for just one night so it's reasonable B&B type thing we are after

Thanks, Donald

O.C.

Donald, Harrogate is notoriously expensive, I used to work there some years ago, (it is a lovely town) however there are deals available as I suppose that the B &B providers there are feeling the pinch like everywhere else, so you might be able to do a deal..check this site

Hawes, on the other hand is a much more rural place frequented by bikers every weekend, and there's quite a lot to see and do, cheese factory etc., etc.,

Personally I would recommend Hawes as a better place to visit, its also situated in the heart of North Yorkshire where there are some great riding roads and stunning scenery

Donald, I Couldn't agree more with O Cs comments, depending on how long you intended to stay, you would be far better off parking yourselves right in the middle of the good stuff (Hawes) It's only a small town, but there is a buzz about the place . How many will you have in your group?. There are a few pubs that do B&B and lots more private B&B in large private houses. The biggest advantage from  a biking aspect, is the fact that biking roads just dont come any better than that region, you honestly just cant go wrong. Oh and if you need a guide let me know and you and your pals can do a follow the Pink armband tour. I would be more than happy to show you around the Dales region.                   Geoff
What would you rather be   or a wasp?

What Geoff and Roger say is correct, especially the pink armband tour, four of us came up last year and had an excellent time around the roads, and the fish and chips in Hawes is the best I have tasted in years.

Do it and you will have a great time.

Thanks for the information and photo's. I'll stick with Hawes and try and sort out some B&B's. I'll let you know how I get on with the arrangements.

Well Old Coney, I'll remind you nearer the time, can't wait for the better weather. I was actually out on my bike today, roads up here were bone dry. I'll get the oil and filter done soon. Have you seen the wee video on youtube, 'kawasaki Concours 14 oil change in 5 minutes', pretty good

Thanks, Donald

I hadn't....but I have now.   :mfr_lol:

I reckon he would have burnt his hand on the pipes if the engine had been pre-warmed though  and that's the colour of GTR that I really like ..I wish it was available in the U.K

Just back from my first excursion to the Dales. What a great time we had. 16 of us hit Hawes staying at Cocketts Hotel, The Fountain and The Bulls head. All the lads thought the accomodation was great. I was at Cocketts and it was first class. We had the side wind from hell yesterday but it was great to be so high up in the dales. We took in the waterfall behind the pub just outside Hawes where they filmed Robin Hood. Had a pint in the bar after. It was great with the fire on and all that atmosphere. Today we went to Devils Bridge and the star of the whole trip was the Hartside cafe. Today was warm, sunny and calm. A really good change from the north west of Scotland. The bends on the way up to the Hartside caught me out though, they come thick and fast, I think I'm turing in too early and have to re adjust. Doesn't help when your mate who's a speed junkie sits right up your tail all the way there right enough.

All the best, Donald

PS, some of the dudes on the Ducatis down there don't have go for it, it was like the TT in places

I'm glad you had a good visit Donald, and you are right the road to artside is one that can easily catch you out (as many bikers will testify). I reckon that you had good weather as it was glorious yesterday.
