Hi,
Anyone got an idea how much a garage should charge me for replacing a fork seal?
I'd do it myself if it wasn't for the specialist tool required.
Thanks
I'm no expert in these matters but I'd estimate an hours labour plus parts, £70-£90 approximately, probably even cheaper if you didn't use a main dealer.
If I take forks off myself, it's about 30 quid plus parts.
Not bad at all.
Next question: how easy is it too remove forks?

I have a Stihl saw which will speed things up for you if you're pushed for time.

Hi Asif, I just had both of mine done and it cost £260 including an MOT.
Getting the forks out of the bike is easy, getting them apart is hard.
Mine had worn through the chrome on the fork legs where they go through the bush. He polished them up but told me I'd need new fork legs within a year or so. For now they are sealing.
I was charged £50 for upsidedown forks, taking in loose legs. Certainly harder that doing "conventional" forks, which I am happy to do myself
I've seen a video showing how to replace them. You do need specific tools though, although I could fabricate them myself.
I am kinda tempted to do them myself, but then again for the sake of 50ish quid I could leave them to the expert to do.
I'd just take them to the dealer and let them sort them out. Keep life simple. :mfr_lol:

:agree:
Took both forks off today. Forgot how enjoyable it can be working on bike. Wasn't too difficult, more of a pain getting everything off
Don't do my trick and re-assemble only to find a nut and bolt left over

Been there, done that!
Well Asif, did you get the job done and are there any nuts and bolts leftover ?

Last I heard, he had that many spare parts he has managed to build himself another bike! :mfr_lol:

Where do I start on this?
So took them off fine, gave them to local mechanic to put new seals on. He gets them back to me a couple of weeks later, and I leave them for another two weeks before putting them on.
I have a big smile on my face putting them back in, thinking this is easy. As I'm tightening the pinch bolts after putting the wheel on, the thought did cross my mind that maybe I hadn't tightened the pinch bolts that hold the fork in place correctly. Pinch bolts in pairs have to be tightened multiple times to get to the correct torque as tightening one loosens the other.
Anyway, there I am, all finished, thinking I'll just check those pinch bolts again and finish off. And then with horror I look at the handlebars.
The top of the fork on both sides is touching the handlebar. I thought the forks were restricted as to how far they could go. Never been more wrong in my life.
So took everything off, adjusted the forks correctly, did the pinch bolts correctly. Took another 90 mins but at least this time it was done properly.
Passed its MOT next day.
So you now have a smile on your chops, not only because you did a great job but also because you saved a few quid, :mfr_lol:
Well done
I still say it would have been easier to have let the dealer do it. :mfr_lol:
What have you done with all the spare nuts and bolts? :whistling:

:mfr_lol: everything went back to its proper place.
I do need to setup the suspension though
Good job 😁
I may be bothering you for advice soon as I am considering fitting ZZR1400 forks to mine.
