I just had to get out on the bike a couple of days ago for an hour. Nothing impressive location wise, just a ride through the mean and dangerous streets of Bradford, up to Denholme, dropped down into Keighley before heading back home via Saltaire & Shipley.
It was brief but it felt good. Has anyone else been out for a ride?

Yes I have twice. Once to get medication for my brother. Second time because I had to get out! But felt a bit guilty doing it.
At 8.20 I thought you were overtaking the cyclist and speeding up to pot the old chap trying to get across the road ! :cheesy:
Noisy gearbox. Engine sounded nice.

I haven't been out on my bike, but I do see plenty cyclists on the road and I am tempted.... as I understand it if stopped by the authorities a warning is issued in the first instance, it's possible you could be fined if caught a second time.
It's a temptation and TBH I struggle to see why I shouldn't go for a ride out, (but not stop to socialise) the really crazy thing is..... it's always the same after a long lay off you always feel ooooh I better be careful out there as I haven't ridden for months (usually about 4) however on this occasion I reckon it's at least 7 months since the bike turned a wheel, apart from being started up regularly, so there is always a degree of trepidation.
I'm sure/hope you felt better after your ride Steve
I will be taking a test ride on a k16 at a dealer when lockdown eases. It's a very nice colour.
I've used the bikes for all of the journeys where I can accommodate the shopping needs, prescription collections etc.
Twice seen police cars around, I think going about their normal business. Neither took any interest in me, one of the drivers in fact waved as he went past.
There are quite a few bikes around this way, my brother says the same up in Scotland where he is (Dornoch). Many are, he tells me, loaded with luggage and have foreign plates!

I have only been out on the bike twice during the lockdown that I can recall. I can't see an issue with it personally. It's good for the soul and mind.

I
blame thanks Steve.. because I have also just returned from a nice hour or so out on my bike , Up through Armoy and on the race circuit for a mile or so then on to Ballycastle which is a massive biker meeting place by the harbour, there wasn't a single bike in sight, then over to Cushendall and back home.. IT WAS GREAT and like Steve says I can't see any harm
I saw about 10 or so cyclists and not many more cars plus 3 police cars two of which were unmarked, they weren't far from each other so I guess they were on the lookout for someone/thing
I feel bloody great now

Again, I call bullshit. Pictures however may help to add some credence to your claim.
I took the GTR out on Thursday. Had a few things to do including dropping off medication to elderly parents and a friend housebound with a back ailment. Worked out a route which took me down the Ards Peninsula along the coast road from Newtownards to just north of Portaferry. Had another drop-off to do near Killyleagh so my choice was back up the coast road to Newtownards or go the last couple of miles into Portaferry and take the ferry across to Strangford. Opted for the second option. As luck would have it the ferry arrived just as I did so rode straight on. Only myself and one van made the 5 minute crossing. Haven't been on a bike since early October so a bit rusty but got back into the swing of it and felt so much better when I got home. A gentle cruise at a scenery watching pace. There were a few other bikes out. In particular I met a Blackbird between Comber and Dundonald identical in colour to mine (2000 model blue). Took a quick look when I got home to be sure mine was still safely locked up in the garage.
the Strangford ferry is a particular favourite of mine
I fear I may have started a rebellion. :mfr_lol:
It does release some feel good vibes though doesn't it. I'm hoping to get out again tomorrow. :biker3:

The owners of the Ramore Wine Bar also own Coast on the ground floor and the Harbour Bar 50m away. I was talking to one of the owners recently and he told me they had the busiest eaterie in Europe. Food great in all of them. Harbour Bar voted best Guinness in Ireland. With the NW200 cancelled next month, it'll hit the area hard. Spectating is free for 95% of places on the race course. 100,000 spectators. Best atmosphere outside IOM TT.

That's expensive for the year. It's a well known fact that the K1600 has the largest depreciation value of all the popular BMW bikes, hence why you can pick them up so cheap. I notice that on one of the photos the engine management light is on, that's not normal. It also says in the particulars, 367 miles, two previous owners!!!! Two previous owners at 367 miles?
On a plus, if Pete does get a BMW that will put him right in the firing line for some heavy duty piss taking so it's not all bad and I would encourage him to buy it. :mfr_lol:

Oh yes, I'm a long time supporter and spectator of the NW 200, ..........amongst other things my local classic bike club have put on bike displays at the Church Hall in Ballymoney (Just below the Dunlop Memorial) during NW 200 week....obviously this year we won't be putting on a show, which will unfortunately adversely affect our usual charitable donations
Maybe BMW should think carefully before selling Pete a bike. Whilst there is a chance that he might turn into their greatest advocate, if he doesn't the dealer and manufacturer will probably never hear the end of it all!

yep that's the one. Indeed mileage is 345 originally owned by bmw. It's the colour that attracts me. If I was to buy, unlikely, price would have to go down and engine management light would need to be out.

I regard that as a great compliment Colin. I only say the truth.
Pete, it is a compliment!
I think that the bike in question might well have been affected by the transmission recall that prevented bikes made between 2017 and (I believe) late 2019 being ridden until the work had been carried out. I have several acquaintances who bought new bikes late last year and suffered delivery delays.
To the best of my knowledge, most (if not all) units were reworked by March of this year, so perhaps that is why the bike that you are looking at has only a few miles on and yet has changed owners? The gearbox is of the cassette type, so extensive dismantling is not, apparently required to do the work.
My friends who own K1600's are all well pleased, although as one commented it is more complex and heavier than the 1300GT yet has the same power output. If I really thought that I could cope with the weight, I would probably have bought one myself by now, although my K1300GT is all that I need and performing well so far.
Good to hear that your bike is performing well. I still get a buzz from my GTR but no harm in looking around. Ideally I would buy an updated GTR sadly that is not possible. Before buying another bike it would have to excite me. Will also get a test ride on FJR which is also now in its last year of production. But all this will depend on when our lockdown situation improves.
I thought the idea was to stay in unless your journey is for work or absolutely necessary. So far I have lost 3 aquantancies to this virus, one of them a paramedic. Stay in and save lives we are told, anything else is stupid and selfish.
I had bad experiences with two BMW motorcycles, however what I must say is the K1300 GT EE that I owned (like Colins) was very comfortable and had a stonking engine, which IMHO was better than the GTR
Chris, I'm sorry to hear of your friend's suffering and the loss to their families.
In this rural area, visiting the doctor's surgery for our prescriptions involves a round trip of 23 miles and the supermarkets are only slightly closer. The doctor's surgery will not allow a telephone call to check that prescriptions are ready and, twice I turned up on the appointed day for collection to be told to return in a few days, as they were behind with issuing medication. Two wasted journeys, therefore.
Should there be an issue with me using a bike to make these journeys instead of the car? When I arrived at the supermarket with my wife a week or two ago in the car, we were told that only one of us could enter. In light of this, I have to go alone, and I am as alone on the bike as in the car, surely?
I go out when I would have to make a journey in any case and although I registered in early April (for the first time ever) for online supermarket deliveries, in the three weeks since not one delivery slot has come up, despite checking as early as 5:30 a.m. and as late as 11p.m.
Unfortunately, the thought that you can confine yourself to your own house and garden in these times is simply not one that works in practice.
I'm left wondering how many of the Lycra clad cyclists that are seen every day are collecting prescriptions or groceries
I do fully understand the need to self isolate
Chris, sorry to hear how the virus has impacted on your life and that of the families involved.
Of the two occasions I have been out on the bike, each journey was short and I incorporated into it a shopping trip. Firstly to collect some meds and food for the dogs and more recently some other dog stuff. As Colin has stated earlier some shops are controlling numbers who enter the shop even if from the same family. The shop I am referring to above operates this practice so it makes sense to go alone and on the bike.
However it goes deeper than this, Matt Hancock the Health Secretary has now on a number of occasions gone on tv and raised serious and genuine concerns about how the governments advice to stay at home, (and it is just advice not law), will significantly impact upon a persons mental health. I'm talking about ordinary people, not necessarily even people who have a history of MH, just everyday folk, no doubt like you and I who suddenly are expected to shut themselves off from the world.
Think also about people who are autistic and find change to be difficult if not impossible to deal with, individuals who may be registered blind, who suddenly find that in addition to the loss of their sight they have now lost the ability to have any interaction with another human, victims of domestic abuse who want to escape their violent partners but they are being told to stay at home thereby putting themselves at greater risk. One size does not fit all. You cannot treat everyone the same as everyone's needs are different.
Am I being stupid and selfish by going out on my bike, I don't believe I am. Does it give me a morale boost, yes it does and therefore when it is appropriate to do so I shall continue to use my bike for such journeys.
:goodpost: I too have had a friend whose family have been seriously impacted by Corona virus, my friends son-in-law spent 15 days in an induced coma in ITU he is an extremely lucky 36 years old, otherwise fit postman, and has since returned home via various other wards, he is delighted to be home with his family altough he has loss of movement in his legs, and has lost 3 stones in weight
Chris,, I would add that I too am sorry about the losses you have experienced
I ,too, am sorry to hear Chris's news. As I think I have mentioned my brother is in a 12 week lockdown. I have used the bike to get his meds and groceries on the bike. With regard to self isolating I am doing it and have not seen the girlfriend since beginning of lockdown. (Every cloud has a silver lining!) But I have also been on bike For purely pleasure reasons and I believe it has a therapeutic value.
Like our friends on this forum, I'm very sorry to hear of your loss, Chris.
The journey I took on my bike was essential travel - delivering medication to my parents (88 & 86) who live in a rural area and who haven't left home for about 6 weeks now. Their nearest shop for groceries is a few miles away and they don't deliver. However, the shop owner lives about 1/4 mile from my parents and has been delivering their groceries on his way home out of the goodness of his heart.
And to my friend who has a back ailment keeping him indoors. Left the medication at their front doors.
I'd have made the same journey by car. Taking the bike was a pleasure, no argument, but I wasn't in contact with anyone and it was within the lockdown rules.
That being said, I find it hard to criticise anyone going out on their bike for therapeutic reasons. Head in a helmet, no contact with anyone. Riding especially carefully to ensure they don't have a trip to A&E.
Especially after travelling Dubai to Dublin on 22 March in a 777-300 with no empty seats and virtually no-one wearing a mask. That had me worried but didn't have much of a choice. Cabin crew didn't stay in Dublin but went straight back to Dubai for lockdown.
I took the GS out for a "Sanity Ride" this afternoon ... just me and the roads of Sussex with no need to bother the NHS enroute. Warm and sunny it was lovely to get out and just ride the bike ..especially as the Scotland trip is now off ... it certainly works wonders and clears the old head

Coincidentally so did I. I went over to Fridaythorpe towards the East coast where there is a bikers cafe called Seaways. I didn't expect it to be open of course but I did enjoy the ride. Here's a wee video from my ride. I felt much better afterwards and of course I fully complied with self isolating in the process.

No, he didn't stop me. I suspected he was going to as he drove straight onto the garage forecourt and then straight out again after swinging by where I was parked up. It seemed a strange manoeuvre. The Cops seem to have chilled out a bit, not like the first couple of weeks of lockdown when they looked like they were quite excited at the ability to hand out a ticket for a new offence. I speak from experience from having an encounter with one such Officer. :whistling:

Episode 3...... :biker3:
Saturday 9th May, the weather was just bootiful, I had to take advantage and get out again. The video is a bit long at just over an hour so you'll be forgiven if you don't watch it all but it was such stunning scenery I couldn't bare to edit it down any more. I started filming just off the A1M near Thirsk and then went via Leyburn and Hawes. Quite a lot of bikers out, hardly surprising considering it was 23 degrees.
I ain't no vlogger, I hate the sound of my own voice, (so do many others) :sleep1: but it is what it is.
If you do bring yourself to watch it, I hope you enjoy it.

I really enjoyed that ... thanks, because we are still locked down here so riding for recreation is a no no, although 'some' have been out once or twice
I know that area extremely well as we lived in Leyburn for over 2 years and consequently I rode those beautiful roads regularly... I was smiling as your film reacjhed the 53.28 spot as the field gate on your left came into view... I always called it Rusty gate bend ... no pun intended Rusty
Thanks for sharing Steve... hopefully Arlene Foster & co will allow a slight relaxation of restrictions which will see me out and about on the bike again
BTW I like the camera set up, but I'm still reluctant to attach a camera to my helmet, if you know what I mean .... :mfr_lol:
EDIT: what's a DJI Osmo Pocket accessory ?
The DJI Osmo Pocket is a camera made by DJI that fits in your pocket. :mfr_lol:
It's also seriously good for the price. It'll record in 4K and lower resolutions, it has a three axled gimble, tracks an object, does time lapses, stills, etc. A great little all round camera. DJI make drones and are probably the go to manufacturer for that type of film making equipment. The quality of their camera units are extremely good in my opinion.

Yes, all the riding footage is with the Drift, the various angles of the bike etc at the Goat Gap Cafe is with the DJI. You just import the footage into your video editing program and mix and match as you see fit.
Thanks Steve, as you know I'm a self confessed numpty when it comes to video editing and am, for years, on record of threatening to improve my skills in this area
The 'new' Goat Gap Cafe, used to be a Little Chef for many years, until it fell by the wayside, (pun intended), it then became something like the A65 cafe for a short while
Interestingly the stone built property set back from the A65 and behind the Cafe used to be the Goat Gap Inn many years ago, I think it is now residential/private property
I remember the Little Chef.

I keep saying that I will, but never do... which software would you recommend for a numpty (me)
Roger, I use an iMac so that comes with IMovie, Windows PC's used to come with a version of Windows Media. Depending on which computer system you use have a search for either of these programmes. Like anything which is free, it is limited in its ability, but still perfectly functional. The downside is possibly that it will not handle 4K video, unless someone can tell me differently.
Programmes such as Nero, Pinnacle etc are well established and pretty cheap. You can probably buy a DVD of either for £30-£50?
I use Adobe Premiere Pro which is on a monthly subscription service along with my photo editing software, i.e. Lightroom & Photoshop. Theres also Final Cut Pro if you want to throw some money at it.
I just shoot the odd bike vid to entertain myself and also to act as a safeguard should some fuckwit try to kill me. If you do look at buying a camera for the bike, make sure the quality is good enough to be able to read a number plate at a reasonable distance otherwise if the worse does happen the offending idiot will be untraceable.
GoPro's are still a firm favourite with many, I use the Drift 4K which is cheaper than the Go Pro and the quality is comparable in most cases. Drift Ghost X's are supposed to be good and they are a sensible price too.

Another clip, much shorter than the previous one. Probably one of the windiest days I've experienced on the bike. Not sure if the heavy bike was a blessing or a curse. Just a little potter around the outskirts of Leeds.
https://youtu.be/fOdQqOgYoh8
Great, it was clear to see that the winds had been blowing hard, judging by the amount of green leaves scattered around especially at the very end of the film
I think a heavier bike is probably a bit more stable in cross winds, but the flatter sides of a big 'Tourer' can act like a sail in those conditions
Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood sound track................ interesting choice
That track was b side of sugar town hit in 1966. From camera angle bike looks as big as a car. They are good those hayabusas.

All in all a good day out, 170 miles, top temperature 25 degrees, no idiots on the road, no Police seen, everyone appeared to be keeping themselves to themselves on the whole. A very enjoyable ride.
I do like Whitby must go back some time.
One of the wooden benches in your picture is dedicated to my old school teacher John Dennison
I remember from years ago that Asif had a connection with one of the chairs too, possibly one of his teachers too.

You still paid it, didn't you. Hehe
PS Nice bike (the green one third from left)
With two mates took the GTR on a run today. Joined the Antrim coast road at Larne going north. Stayed on it until Bushmills, home of the oldest whiskey distillery in the World. Then into Portrush where were rode the North West 200 course as far as Portstewart. Retraced our route to just north of Ballycastle then across to Ballymoney past the Joey Dunlop memorial and back via Kilrea and Ballymena.
180 or so miles of head-clearing bliss.
Sorry your commitments stopped you joining us O.C. Maybe next time. PS Hope you were successful getting your pussy groomed.

Stevie it was kind of you to invite me along, I was genuinely disappointed that I couldn't join you all on your ride, but as you know I was tied up (metaphorically speaking) and couldn't get out.

My sincere apologies for the erroneous information, Sir.
So, for the record, it wasn't pussy grooming, it was dogging.
Glad we cleared that up.
Yes Spaniels only seem to know one pace, mach 3, followed by 5 seconds rest before starting again. :mfr_lol:
