Title: Flaking paint on exhaust end cap
Post by: Kylinski on February 19, 2017, 05:02:57 PM
Hi chaps!

I cleaned my bike this morn before heading out for a spin.

Got to the silencer end cap and the paint started flaking off!!!

New bike, been out 3 times and ACF 50 it all over.

Very disappointed 😧

Is this common? I heard of a few cases on the ZZR doing the same thing.

Can't say that I've seen that one so no, it's not common.

Yeah, that thought occurred to me, I guess there'd be a priced 'adjustment involved though'    :mfr_lol:

The paint on both the front and rear end caps started to flake on mine when it was about 3 years old. Mines a 2009 model so was not too bothered. Just rubbed it down and sprayed using aluminium VHT paint from Europarts. No problem since and it is the only corrosion on the bike which is now more than 7 years old.

Yep, if mine was out of warranty I'd have just rubbed it back and sprayed it with black satin engine paint. Job done.

I had the same problem on my GTR. It was only the size of your finger nail but it shouldn't have happened and the dealer changed the can under warranty.

Same problem with mine on front and back exhaust trim.
Getting them back from the powder coater tomorrow.
Had them sprayed the same colour as the wheel which is being powder coated too - silver would you believe.
It is obviously more common than we might have thought.

I'm not going to look at mine.  If I don't see it, it isn't happening.

I tried spraying them black at first but it just didn't look right.

However if that were to happen with a BMW engine casing and it never did with mine, BMW change the bloody engine, now that's what you call BMW aftercare.

Just a quick update on this. I took bike back to dealer who took some photos to send off to Kawasaki.

Dealer said the part will be replaced within two weeks

What do you mean? Simply stating that that is how these matters should be dealt with.

I have to big shout out to the guys at GT Superbikes.

Fitted me in for a first service at very short notice when they were booked up for 2 weeks.

Also replaced the exhaust end cap (flaking paint) by removing it from another exhaust in the parts debt. (My part is still on order)

Brilliant service. Thanks to all
