Title: Exploring the Dark Side !
Post by: Ant on February 12, 2016, 09:25:07 PM
Yep, as the title says

Going to check out a K1300S in Norwich tomorrow.   A bike that I've said I would one day have, always liked the look and performance they give.

Unfortunately I'm just not jelling with the Honda Crosstourer, don't get me wrong its a great bike, but no good for my 700 mile blasts to southern France.

My FJR eats it but mileage is creeping up, so time to explore the Dark Side  :whistling:

I originally went to look at the one next to it, but this one wanted for nothing and had only just come in.

I left Charlie talking to a salesman about some Gloves,,,

1.5 hours later and 3 cups of coffee later I had done the deal signed and sealed, and went looking for Charlie and my other half Lorraine, who were now looking at clothing for Charlie.   Well it wasn't just an expensive day for me either !!!   :whistling:

I agree to some extent, but will be worth it hopefully.   I did sit on Charlies beast and felt very comfy, but still too upright for me atm.

Mmmmmmm.......................

Not sure if Cheryl will let me out to play with these 2 again without a wallet curfew  :help:

Picked up a pair of gloves like Debs Held ones..........but branded BMW. With a note on the price tag "made in China" the retail price was simalar to the Held ones.

Plus have some sort of breathable jacket..............had nearly 25% knocked of the price for having both

It was a great ride out with Ant & Lorraine yesterday..............put a big smile on my face.  The humour banter and destination were top draw quality

Didn't realise at the start of the day that I would be the owner of new glovers and jacket either

The K13 engine is a very strong unit, I liked the K1300 GT EE that I  owned, sadly it had other issues, which is a shame really.

Congratulations Ant on your new steed  :punk: very nice indeed.

I wish I'd have known about your little trip over as I live in Norwich and I'd have love to have arranged a meet (I was off work then so would have been easy).

If I hadn't bought another zzr14 last summer I would have got a K13, great bike with very good reviews (my 14 came with those same Ackrapovic end cans).

I wish you many happy and safe miles together   :biker3:

Well done Ant ... nothing wrong with venturing into The Dark Side !!
The K1300S is by all accounts a stonking bit of kit and your example looks gorgeous I have to say. You will have no problems putting lots of miles on that especially with that Akro fitted to it .. just hold onto your licence
Know a chap at work who has one and he truly swears by it. Enjoy.

I briefly owned a BMW K1300 GTEE which had too many issues for me to live with long term.......however its 1300cc engine was an absolute stonker

Dave, I'm sure we will be venturing over that way at some point in the future, heading for the coast or somewhere, so keep your eyes peeled on the forum.  If you are going to the meet, you could ride with us....we have a laugh and usually on the hottest day of the year !!  :sweatdrop:

Cheers Rusty,  Cant wait to get out on 'Bullet' but as with all my bike purchases, I have problems !!!!  Nothing wrong with the bike, just the bloke that owned it has lost the log book.  Luckily he bought it new from said dealership so all's good there. Just waiting for a new V5 to come through so it can be taxed.
I was offered a loan RT, bit pointless I said as ive got others to ride if nessesary.

When I bought the Crossdresser it was transported back to Honda and duly 'dropped' when the bloke slipped getting it off the trailer....£1500 bill for the breakdown company !!!

Bought the FJR in 2014, and the dealership 'send' button to the DVLA to register the bike didn't send apparently. So I was riding around for4 weeks on an unregistered bike !!!   Wondered why I never received any speeding tickets !!  :whistling:

When I got the GTR, I turned up to bring it home with 2 fecking left hand gloves in my helmet ....I always put them away myself now !!

Bought a Busa a couple of years ago, lovely speed machine, but the previous owner had put the original clutch level on wrong, so it wasn't sitting right and letting the clutch seat. Bike heated up and the clutch slipped when accelerating........ :ohplease:

So nothing new for me, is this problem... :mfr_lol:

Enjoy your tea everyone, if you've had a bad day, think of me !!!  :biker3: :mfr_lol:

I too have explored the dark side, in the form of a K1200S, when I was looking to get something with a bit more grunt than my CBF1000.

It was a great bike, pulled like a tank, very impressive... right up until I pulled back into the dealers yard and heard a very loud rattle that wasn't there when cold.

Mentioned it to the dealer. His reply "It's a clutch bearing. They all do that." and he pulled the clutch lever in (bike in neutral) and the noise vanished... In short, it put me off the bike as I figured it'd mean problems down the line.

Cheers

Paul B.

Wise decision. They are not all they are cracked up to be.

They are actually, and if you get rid of a bike due to problems that occur, you may as well pack up riding. Unless you buy an FJR, which runs for 200k straight out the box if serviced correctly.

Put it this way, Kawasaki will eventually iron out all the issues over the years that GTR s have had, add a few more bits like cruise, possibly more, and it will be top of the tourers.
It is actually a relatively new bike and issues will occur until they iron them out with newer models, like the Honda Crosstourer I just got rid of ( massive shaft drive recall ),,,just rubbish for long hauls, uncomfortable for me.

The K1200 had its problems as did the K1300, but I'm not fazed as I got a years Warranty and European breakdown cover, and if I don't try these things now, who knows what the future holds for us.
I will eventually go back to a GTR14, but not until I think its near perfect right out the box.

PS ( That's why I'm keeping one set of my bars )  :punk:

Those are the ones that I could recall Jim and I have experienced every one of those issues on the GTRs that I have owned, non of which actually rendered the bike un-ridable, (I suppose we should also bear in mind the front disc warping issue), even so 7 faults over a period of 8 years is a record that maybe even Yamaha would be jealous of   :mfr_lol:

They've made minute design changes in both the pads and the rotors in the later Gen2s.  We definitely don't see that issue rearing it's ugly head that much any more.

I'm just North of Bordeaux, weathers only slightly better than the UK, but I believe you had a little more rain in the east on Wednesday ?

The ride down once above freezing was good, very little traffic as usual, but coming back Saturday ----- in a Motorhome that I'm selling for someone !!!!
