Is there a web (free) bike valuation service anyone would recommend for getting an accurate price for a bike. I've been given the go ahead to get a new bike if I would like to !!!
Good Lord Mr Wolf ... have you drugged her ??  That is great news .......
I don't know of any sites but Auto Trader is always a good place to gauge the REAL worth of your bike ... as opposed, sadly, to what you and I think it's worth .. and in this day and age that will be a considerable difference !
One imagines of course you shall get a GREEN one !
nice one Mr wolf! just check ebay and www.autotrader.co.uk/bikes to give you a fair idea what to expect in theses trying times  are you buying new, if so may be just as well to trade in. remember they want to sell as well  are we going to see you on a 2010,2011 or even a 2012 model at the cotswolds meet.

Show her what a real man you are, turn the offer of the new bike down and ask if she would like a new kitchen instead. :whistling:
Why dont the both of you go together and get an even better deal for two bikes.

Oh and does new bike mean NEW bike?
It wont be a brand spanker  but we all know there are many bargains to be had at the moment. Theres a 10 and 11 plate magnesium one on Auto Trader & MCN Classifieds at the moment, £8.999, thats a fair price. Going to call them both tomorrow. Pity Keiths not just starting to advertise his bike now, it would be perfect for me. On the other hand, a 59 plate, silver, low mileage one would suit me just fine too.
I'll see what my local Kwak dealer thinks mines worth tomorrow. Ever the optimist I'd like £6000 for it but that might be wishfull thinking in these hard times.
Whatever .... that is good news that you are on the road to a new bike, and as you say, it is a very good time to buy ... even in these hard times you will, I am sure come to an agreement with the seller and ride away with a big smile on your face
Good luck with the hunt for a 'new' un.....
The classifieds would be a good place to guage current prices.....but don't overlook dealer stock as they too may have some good bargains in the showroom
It needs to be GREEN...OK [/b]
Get a new green Grand Touring and you get inner bags for free.
there is a"Managers Special" deal available on a 2012 model with 1 mile on the clock here....its a very cheap deal and could be worth a call Steve...I don't think the bike is on their website, but is on Autotrader

Nah, go for a 2010 model at the minimum. If you're going to upgrade, then upgrade properly is my view.
Ive contacted two dealers today who were selling a 2010 and a 2011 model. The 2010 model sold at the weekend... but the 2011 model is still available but its in Dorset. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/270926391412?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/270926391412?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649)
I'm happy to travel, I did a 600 mile round trip when I bought my current one but given the choice I'd rather not have to go that far if it could be avoided.
I'm waiting to hear back from the Dorset place after he's given me a ball park figure for mine.

just thinking dorset from you is approx 550 mile round trip, approx 5 hour ride each way  should be great fun on your new steed  I've bought 3 bikes from gt motorcycles in plymouth, and the best part was riding them all the way home  I remember a mate of mine saying, I must be mad buying a bike 300 miles away! I replied, well apart from getting a better deal from gt motorcycle than from my local dealers. I'm killing 2 birds with one stone! because when you buy a new bike you don't go straite home do you, you go for a dam good ride and most likely stay out all day! so whats the difference  hope everythink works out for you and hope to see you on your new steed at the cotswolds meet or sooner, if you fancy a ride to the ponderosa

Cheers Roger, good to see you and your awesome 750 triple at the show, really enjoyable weekend, good show and cracking ride home via A701 to Moffat then peeled off the M6 at Penrith onto the A6 over Shap fell down to Kendal, brilliant start to the season!! Looking forward to hearing the 750's distinctive sound sometime, I would'nt mind choking on the blue smoke a little bit just to hear it howl!!!!!!!
Just got in from work a short while ago, I'll ring Robinsons when I get up.
I dont know what the crack is these days with sales and sales staff but I called Robinsons first thing this morning, they thought the bike had been sold but couldnt confirm that, they said they'd have to call me back, I said I'd hold but apparently no they'd call me back. They haven't done yet. Am I going about buying a new bike the wrong way or something, have tactics changed in the last couple of years?
I always thought you enquired, you were provided with info, you made a decision, you bought, (or not). Its like these dealers aren't arsed if they sell or not.

Ah yes....welcome to the new world  the list of dealers i wouldn't buy a bike from is fairly long now, half the time the sales staff can't be bothered to pull 'em selfs away from updating Twitface and the rest it's the sales staff that are ok but the aftersale care is shocking, and they wonder why dealers are going down the pan every five mins.
the best dealer round my way is the BMW dealer in Hertford, my other half is looking to change her bandit later this year, and she rather fancies a K1300, popped in the BMW dealers, they had loads of time to chat, great product knowledge and also have arranged for her to have a demo for the whole weekend!!! now that's what i call a test ride :gunsmilie:
Oh dear! whatever problems I might have had with my K12, BMW salesmen have always been great and, yes, generous with loan bikes.
So, I am sensing that the Kawasaki guys will not offer quite the same experience.
Is this a generally held view?

not ringing a customer back is both ignorant and very bad practice
I had no problem when I dealt with MCO in fact they were keen to deal
I'm still waiting (6months now) for Allan Jeffries BMW to ring me back, but they are a bit late as I changed my bike for a stunning GTR 6 months ago :mfr_lol:
Could we not be kind to these people in question and give them the benefit of doubt that maybe a message has not been passed on, or a misplaced phone number maybe?. Like Roger I bought mine off MCO (Wigan Kawasaki) and found them fantastic people to deal with.

fair comment "me thinks" if it was me, I would give them another call  because that greenie coloured one looks dam nice for a greenie coloured one  it's most likely the message as not been passed on to the relevant person, or the number as been misplaced. it's very unlikely a dealer will not return a phone call for a potential sale even if the bike in question as been sold, they would simple try to sell you another bike.

Couldn't agree more, :agree: for instance MCO are part of a massive group of dealers, and looking on their collective sites they have plenty of low/or no mileage GTRs up for grabs, as you say I think I would be giving them a bell back.

Hi SirTou,
the GTR and ZZR are worlds apart in design, performance, handling and "intention" but your ZX10 is even further from the GTR so i think you have the best variety of bikes. If you swapped your ZX10 for a ZZR I think you would miss the sharpness of purpose that the ZZR cannot match(even after MCT tune up) as always, just my opinion but i do have both GTR and ZZR and a FireBlade, and none of them do as well as what the others are focused on. Yes you can tour on a Blade and you can wheelie a GTR, but horses for courses where possible
Coman
Oh ZX10 isn't standard. :-), but I think the ZZR is positioned as a half way house between the ZX10R and the GTR... All three are top of the range flagship bikes, just with different purposes.
ZX10 = 2011 non-ABS, with Carbon fibre Wheels, PCV and Austin Racing Exhaust..... 192bhp at wheel, 0 miles on the clock. Needs remapping to get that little extra..... And a smattering of carbon, hugger, fender, seat pod, screen, - see fast bikes mag issue 250 - summer last year.
ZZR will happen at some point. Just got to save some money... :-)
Neil
Mr coman I woudn't go as far as saying "worlds apart" :nono: must admit I do find theses 2 bikes to be similar in everythink except acceleration and of course! top end speed. in my opinion, the big difference is how the zzr feels like your arms are being torn from their sockets when opened fully up  both bikes are tourers, the sport tourer and the sports hyper tourer. after all, the gtr engine is a detuned zzr engine, both have similar stopping power, both can tour all day with ease, and even have similar m.p.g when cruising. in my opinion, if you were to add panniers and a top box to the zzr1400, then theses 2 bikes wouldn't be "worlds apart" but more like "neighbourhoods apart"

As you may (or more probably) may not know, I am at the end of a 13 year relationship with my Bayerische Babe K12RS (1999) and looking to go 14GTR.
From the quote above, Lonewolf, I wonder how a ZZR would take raised bars and thereby be more rideable for the likes of me.

Mr wolf! assuming you've kept your top box of your other gtr, most likely means your in the market for a magnesium coded colour cover? will keep my eyes peeled for you  p.s if your thinking of removing the spud launcher  I can recommend the remus carbon hexacone exhaust can with inlet/outlet carbon end caps
Dave, yes, I kept the top box and I need a magnesium coloured top for it unless I can get the current top resprayed in youur workshop. :mfr_lol:
Never mind the bloody top box. What do you think of the bike?
I bet it's being cleaned spotless.
OK, a quick update on Saturday's mammoth ride to collect the bike. Six hundred and twenty miles takes it toll on you that's for sure. There's probably only Kevin and his Mrs who are used to doing that sort of mileage.
I set off at 04:30 hrs to go collect it and finally got home at 19:30 hrs approx. So far I'm very impressed with it.
I stopped off at some army museum near Oxford on the way home and took a couple of quick pics.

I haven't had a chance to 'play' with it today as I've been too busy but tomorrow morning hopefully I'll get a chance to have a good look at it and try and fathom out what all the gizmo's do on it.

Very nice indeed Mr Wolf, Im sure you will be very happy together  :001_icon16:. Did you get them to wire the sat nav in for you, or did you plug it into the fag socket?
They mounted it for me but I'll wire it in myself in a week or two when I get some spare time.
Looks very nice LW. Bargain.
I think I've almost persuaded the missus to allow me to have one.

Well, she agreed that I needed some compensation for the grafting I do at work. She won't complain too much if I get a good deal

woo hoo.. this is getting really exciting....new GTRs everywhere
Looks like the only thing you have been playing around with Mr Wolf is Photoshop ... that sky couldn't be any more "Magnesium" if you tried !! :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:
Nice bike and nice ride to collect.
Still amazes me that dealers and businesses can't be bothered and or are too lazy to turn away good money ... and as my father used to say "It just isn't cricket" ...

I wish you lot would stop getting new bikes, I'm already missing ours. That's pretty much the same colour as our FJR and I agree it's a nice colour :). Quote from: Lonewolf on March 18, 2012, 08:35:40 PM

Its supposed to be red but looked more burgundy. TBH, I prefer the candy red they had in the states a few years ago.
Don't think I'll be buying new though. Depreciation is too much

Oh yes. I completely agree :agree: that was a lovely colour, but only available Stateside
I've saw the new Burgundy colour in the showroom at Batley and TBH it didn't appeal to me as it looked a bit...well.... boring/dull .... although Brian assured me that in tghe sunshine it looks much much better
There's nowt wrong with getting a 2010-2011 for £8-9k, you'll still get a lot of bike for your'e dosh.

End of the year I reckon you'll be back on a GTR
When my better half asked about me changing the GTR she asked "What are you going to get next"? "Another GTR of course", I replied, simple decision for me. Its without a shadow of a doubt the best machine I've ever owned.

No Asif.
Love my GTR and it is perfect and sorted.
I've got the GS (or ordered it) ready for retirement later this year. Keeping the GTR and going to run them alongside each other until I can decide whether I want to go Adventure route or stick with Touring bikes.
Got it for a brilliant price, know the full history and two owners and it is mint.
Once I have decided which way to go I will consolidate into one bike again either a new(er) Adventure/GS/Explorer or K1600GT - or stick with my GTR.
I don't like the 2010 GTR onwards - it is too 'round' and 'organic' looking, so I doubt I will be getting one of them when I decide.
As I said, I LOVE my '09 Blue GTR, the colour, the shape and everything about it, but I am starting to question it's longevity after your recent incident and other instances of failures at mileage/age. I have an extended warranty until July 2013 so it is staying until then!
The GS will give me a different view of biking and maybe open up some new 'Adventures'!

As I may have said on here in the past - if I could only have one bike it would be the GS (well GSA in our case) or similar because of their
go anywhere capability. I definitely struggled with the GSA vs. Ténéré vs. Explorer decision though. I eventually went for a GSA over the Ténéré after reading lots of reviews that said the GS handled better. The Triumph was eventually dismissed because I read quite a few adverse comments about the way Triumph handles warranty claims and having experience of the way the local Triumph dealer, Laguna Motorcycles, fobbed me off when I was trying to sort out GTR corrosion issues I decided I didn't want to take the risk. Only time will tell if I made the correct decision as I'm still unsure.
Kevin
Variety is the spice of life.
As for my GTR being indicative of potential issues. I'd take that with a pinch of salt. There#s GTRs in the US that have covered over 100k without issues.
Sometime I think my bike was built on a Friday (as pembsgtr's wife/gf? pointed out!)
You're right Asif - I trust it absolutely, but it's 3 in July, 25k on it and it is used in all weathers and I have had about 4 warranty claims.
The GS/A was on my list when I bought the GTR. As was the 1300GT and 1200RT. Best deal (by default) was the GTR at the time and I have never regretted it. I don;t change regularly, my Blackbird was over 10 years old when I sold it (from new) so I don't swap and change for no reason.
I will probably keep both for a while.
As I said - don't like the newer shape GTR (or the colours tbh) but I love mine and it's still in really good nick.

It'll do that alright
I'm not knocking the GS or the GSA, but it simply isn't the bike for me, and as you know I have had one. :shit:
I still question this "go anywhere" sales pitch as the vast majority of GS riders never get off road with their machines, save for a kerb or two at the local supermarket
My GTR takes me everywher I want to go.

can't argue with that  talking about gs riders! there's a guy at work that has got one! quite like them really, but with me being a short arse  I doubt very much I would be upright for to long especially when I needed to stop  "if you know what I mean" anyway! this guy has the big aluminium steel look panniers, a few weeks ago I was on my way home from work in my car, when this guy on his G.S came round a bend "like the red indiana's where after him  "didn't think much of his riding either" he came round the bend "well" over the white line  anyway, back to the story! one of his pannier lids flew off missing my "new car" about a nats nudger, he didn't even know the lid had flew off. so I stopped and picked it up and took it to work the next day and passed it to one of the security gaurds to pass on the next time he's on shift. I don't know this guy to talk to and I've only seen him on the gs a few time's, I think he's been transferred from another area. anyway, if I do meet him, I'm going to be very pleasant in-deed, he's a big sod :mfr_lol:

Roger, I have two mates who both use their GS/A's on less than smooth roads/tracks. Even some minor roads and twisties are better for the GS than the GTR albeit mine goes there!
I will either love it or will get it out of my system!
There is quite a bit of difference between the full on GSA and the standard GS. The GSA is an inch or so taller in the seat, suspension is two or so higher and of course it has more kit and a much larger tank with loads more fuel sloshing about. The GSA was a no go for me when I tried it in the showroom, never ridden one but just too RTW for my use.
I have a standard 1150GS and it handles well, has reasonable mid range and cruises well in the 70-80mph range, abroad obviously!
There are lots of issues with new GS/GSA both quality of finish and transmission. Much like the GTR I suspect, you hear about the problems as people write about them, not so many comments from happy owners make them seem like an issue when the vast majority are quite happy and the bike is delivering what it was bought for.
For me there is too much cross over between the GS and GTR so I'll be selling my GS soon and getting something for looning about on.
Admittedly the GS & GSA are great all round bikes, a close friend of mine is on his second GS and swears by it, I just swore at the one I had :taz:
Years (many) ago I was into trials riding and was quite good, well I thought so, obviously I wanted to re-live my glory days and so about 3 years ago I bought this which was identical to the one I used to compete on, off road biking is sort of in my blood
(http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n326/oldeconey/PICTURESIMPORTED2166.jpg)
I sold it when I realised that I couldn't/shouldn't try to do what I used to do many years ago , but not to be outdone I decided that I should buy this as it offered the chance for some Green Laning, which is what a few GS/GSA riders are involved in. the KDX200 being lighter and also a stroker made it good fun....in fact bloody good fun, and its a Kawasaki...don't let the fact that its 'only' a 200cc 1988 bike fool you, as if you haven't rideen one then ......well, just try it, and find out for yourself
The KDX (above) was soooooooo much fun that I decided to change it for something which would/could be even more fun....it wasn't....in fact it wasn't even funny, cos it spat me off a few times and once too often, on the last occasion I hurt myself (about a year ago) and was not able to ride any sort of bike for a good month while my bruises (and pride) healed....it could have been worse...actually it could have been much worse....but WTF were all little boys at heart really...aren't we ?
Here's the one that spat me off.....its gone now
(http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n326/oldeconey/PICTURESIMPORTED7172.jpg)
The moral of the story for me is....its about time I grew up and stopped behaving like I did 30 years ago :help: :mfr_lol:

Why? Just don't fall off!
Tried that Chris..............it doesn't work mate
A KDX200??? It's gutless.
I raced a KTM250GS in the late 70s and that was way faster/scarier than the KDX.
If you want real "pucker-power" then take a spin on a CR500 or similar.
Those old 2-stroke 500cc MX-GP bikes were SCARY powerful.
80Bhp and 110kg. That's 720Bhp/ton or the same power/weight ratio as a 2012 ZZR1400.
Of course you couldn't use it as all it ever did was wheelie everywhere.
Damned hoot to ride once you got over soiling your pants! :shit:  :mfr_lol:

What I actually said was that it was "fun" George not that it was a fire breathing KTM, (note the KTM rear arm on the KDX if you haven't already done so)

:mfr_lol: I know. Before my KTM I rode a Suzi RM125 and had an RD50E for road use.
I just remember the first time I gave the KTM the beans on the road.
I spent the next 200yds, and what felt like a year or two, trying to get the front wheel back on the road.
After that I treated it with plenty respect!!
I rode a KX500 and a CR500 at an off road centre. Both were awesome but just too powerful.
With the ¼ turn side pull throttle and all that power you never really got the rear end hooked up.
That said, one of these days I'll get one and SuperMoto it.
Those 2 stroke power bands are a real adrenaline kick, especially on the singles.
