Coming through the Cotswolds yesterday on the Gloucester to Cirencester back road a hen pheasant decided to cross right in front of me.  I felt a slight bump and noticed feathers coming in the screen. No deviation or wobbles and continued home.
Where I discovered a totally bolloxed front mudguard , or front fender as it's known in Kazawaki speak.
Unrepairable so ordered a replacement today.   Should be here on Wednesday and going to cost £160 or so.
I've taken the original off and hosed all the bits of bird off the rad and fairing underside.

Great day out though.

theses birds are a dam hazard. last year my daughter comes screaming into the house shouting! there's a big bird stuck in my headlight. when I went out to investigate, this pidgeon had flowen into her headlight when she was traveling about 40 m.p.h. completely demolished the n/s headlight, replacement £150.00 plus the vat :o and a few hours to fit the dam thing ???

I also remember reading a article in a motorcyle magazine, where a rider was riding at approx 50 mp.h when a blackbird flew straite into his visor, I was surprised to lean that shatter his visor! it broke his nose and had 2 massive black eyes plus a few minor cuts. he did manage to bring the bike to a stop. that could have been a dam sight worse!

also its just not the birds you need to watch! when I had my criuser. I thought may as well look the part, so bought a open faced helmet. soon found out that was a mistake, there I was riding along minding my own business when on the last moment seen this wasp coming straite at me. just had enough time to turn my head to the side it managed to get lodge between my cheek and the lining of the helmet. tough little sod, I was traveling at approx 50 m.p.h and it managed to push my head back. how the hell that did not finish it off I don't know, anyway it also managed to sting me a few times before I managed to stop. thought theses wasps could only sting once. never botherd with the open faced helmet after that.
getting on now...  but not as old as Rog or Geoff

Bees only sting once because the stinger gets stuck in human skin and ripped out venom glands and all.
The bee usually dies afterwards. :(
A wasp on the other hand can sting again and again and unless you squash it live to tell the tale. :P
The later you brake the longer you go fast.

Birds arn't the only bike destroyer.
The club i used to be a member of in Surrey had a member who had a deer run out in front of him.
2 weeks in hospital and a written off Ducati :-[

your not joking! just go to you tube, and type "motorcycle hits deer" there's one clip on there where this guy is doing 90.m.p.h plus on a r6  when a deer ran across his path, the impact literally cuts the deer in half.

I hit a deer on my previous bike 18 months ago, doing about 50 at the time of impact. Shortened my bike by about 9 inches, but someone was smiling on me that day as I managed to keep it upright and escaped unscathed.

I hope you kept the carcass in your freezer for evidence !!!!

Evidence can be examined near a naked flame and seasoning

The bl**dy thing was not even hurt. Picked itself up off the road, turned round and looked at me with a "what the hell did you do that for ?" look. Then sauntered off back into a field.

Many many many years ago I went to a bike/deer RTA and thought it was a fatal ( it was for the deer ) .... hit the animal about 70, carnage, blood and just muck everywhere .... Rider ? Over the top and into a rain sodden field that was as soft as shite where he picked himself up , all be it a little dazed ... one of those remarkable escapes !

One of the guys on my team at work when he did his initial driving course about five years accidently struck and killed a bambi. Local plod were called, (somewhere up in North Yorkshire)  who swiftly tuned up in a van and said, "NEVER MIND LAD, WE'LL TAKE CARE OF THIS FOR YOU". And off they drove into the sunset with aforementioned Bambi never to be seen again.  8)
