Ive got a zumo 660 mounted right in the middle of my bars and want to mount my iPhone nearby  as I love the way google maps reacts to real time traffic and offers alternative routes, something the zumo doesn't do
(unless there is a firmware upgrade or summat im missing out on)
EDIT (just seen there is a traffic antennae for use with my model as it doesn't support the ios app and the reviews aren't too hot plus you cant use the motorcycle mount!!!)

so can anyone recommend a mount that doesn't fit in the middle of the bars where they normally go?
cheers

also if I want to fit a 12v to  usb converter do I have to route it from the battery or is there a specially designed or handy point somewhere near the cockpit I can use?

cheers

Hi Al, i had a 660 with a traffic antenna, but found it a waste of time. By the time you got a traffic update you were either already sat in it or the 660 sent you on a mad diversion when the traffic had already cleared ahead. I sold the 660 for a decent price considering its age and upgraded to a used 590 which didn't cost much more. You can link the 590 to an app on the phone for traffic updates. I'm sure the newer models are even better.

thanks for reply, I saw the newer models can use the ios app

is this as good as google maps for real time updating?

To be honest, i haven't really used it that much over the last 12 months, so its hard to say. I'd probably gauge it as being a lot better than the 660, but doubt if there is anything out there as good as live traffic on google maps. Maybe some of the other members have used their's more?

Hi,
I use to have a Zumo 660 but selling it now as I haven't used it for ages. Still great unit with a new battery as well but I'm just using the apps on the iphone.
The free app in question is called Waze and is a great sat nav as well as speed camera warning (it has saved me from loosing my licence more than once ). It also gets live traffic update a reroute you immediately. It's being used extensively in europe and starting to grow in UK.

Regarding the mount and power supply, I have a ram mount with a specific Ultimate addons waterproof case for the iphone (but they do other models as well).

I have installed a power switch for this in the glove box and you can plug any new socket just under the box. You have two leads already there (under the plastic cover for the leads just behind the box under the fairing).

I'll try to get some pictures soon to show you the setup.

lol ive only had the bike 6 years and ive just noticed there is a car type cig lighter I can use in the cockpit area. dunno if its oem or previous owner mod?

my zumo 660 seems really slow to respond as in if I get to the map screen while on a route if I try scrolling the screen left to right etc by stroking my finger, the screen doesn't follow if I move at even a slow speed, I have to move at a snails pace and even then there is lag. is this normal? or does mine need wiping factory reset etc?
I have a 32gb v fast micro sd card fitted too.

I don't remember mine being that unresponsive Al. I had a problem with mine once where it was very erratic and it turned out to be the sd card. The sd card size wasn't the problem, nor the speed. It simply didn't like one particular brand although i can't remember which one it was. The sd card worked fine in a pc though. Try taking the card out and just load uk maps directly to the zumo, do a factory reset then see how it performs.

to be fair I had an old sd card in so ill try the unit without card and do a factory restore

just had a look at waze, much better than google maps impossible to see white roads in sunlight

instead of £300 plus for a newer sat nav im now thinking cheapo android tablet with that waze app
