As I said I'm new to all this video as you ride....I'll add the clip-on mic along side the Auto com we have then any chit chat we have will be better than the racket from the Drift mic. I must admit I have thought about if possible, somehow splice another mike from somewhere on the bike as a background sound?? maybe a switch so that I can change over from one mic to the other?? :undecided:

I'll take a look at those other software maybe try them.....Lightworks have 100's of folks on the Tube showing how it all works, but my head starts to spin... :whistling:

Thanks Dave.

1: "Catch Me If You Can" by Walking On Cars
2: "Come Back Around" by Feeder
3: "Hell" by Foo Fighters
4: Lame muzak clip that came with the Garmin software, used as a filler at the end

Cheers,

Cheers Paul,

Foo fighters, that's it  :punk:

Nice vid, I'm constantly trying to find a nice action cam but have struggled over the years, my Contour from many years ago was great, loved the GPS on it but battery was a bit poo.

What VIRB is it you are using?
I'd be interested in your settings too as you dont have any .

I too have messed with the Virbs a bit, I'm selling my 4K Virb Ultra as I hate the layout of the camera, and battery isnt great, cant find a bits per sec and resolution that I like.   I am beginning to hate the Virb edit software (I use the MAC version), sometimes the gmetrics works sometimes it doesnt.

I used various Contours, Drifts, Virb Elite, Virb Ultra 30, Roadhawk Moto R+

What I'd like is Full HD 1920 with 50Mbs rate, battery life around 4hrs, GPS and optional hardwiring kit.

I'm thinking of getting the Innovv K1s kit, but not overly impressed with the quality of the video but like the permanent nature of it.

I have the original Virb - standard HD action cam. I never intended to get a camera (I have enough tech in my life already) but when I got my Garmin sat nav, I was looking through the menus, and found one called "Virb"... I hit Google and discovered their range of cameras. I really like being able to start and stop recording using the sat nav screen.

The only setting I've changed is turning the sound off because all it picks up is wind noise. Other than that, it's left at HD, PAL, 25fps etc etc.

The Mac and Windows versions of Virb Edit are identical (I use a desktop Mac for most stuff but a Windoze laptop for "sat on the sofa" stuff). As the Virb produces MP4 videos I'll be using iMovie from now on; much nicer and more features than the Garmin software.

I've still got the Virb Elite which I like the format of (Think it'll be the same format as yours, just a revision before the X and XM's), I too love the Zumo controlling the Camera..

I'd prefer somewhere nice to put the camera too, the GTR just seems devoid of nice places. My ZZR, I used the crash bungs, Versys I used the Crash Bars.  GTR, trying the handbars using a handy mount but has to shot through the screen, now I have a Vstream its got the curves right in the wrong place :)

Maybe I'll tweak the settings back to default and see how it pans out. I wish the g-metrics stuff but a little more consistent but its fluff more than anything else.

I see no benefits to the Virb edit software if you dont have g-metrics data, its bloatware.

I have a 2013 style Mac Pro that I bought new last year, has a small SSD as a boot drive, the stupid Basecamp for the Zumo maps  likes to stick everything there despite trying symbolic links to move it to a larger drive.  Its a pain in the ass.

thanks

My Virb has a setting to allow for mounting the camera upside down; how about mounting it underneath a mirror? No more shooting through a screen.

Yesterday I think I've bagged myself a Virb Elite from Gumtree for £60  If/When that turns up I can play with the metrics stuff.

You have a cylindrical Mac Pro? Very nice indeed! I have a huge beast of an older Mac Pro (heavily upgraded over the years) which I really should sell. My iMac does everything I need these days, and my Drobo unit gives me more storage than I really need

I know what you mean about some software forcing itself onto your boot drive. That can be a pain in the :asshole:

The common form factor for these early virbs is nice, but there does seem to be a lack of various mount options, my Virb ultra that I'm getting rid of, had the same as the go pro fitment and seems to have a plethora of mounts and options.

Yup, I have the trash can Mac,  previously had a 2009 Mac Pro and felt I needed an upgrade, as it was upgraded over the years to keep it current. It just lacked the underlying grunt that I wanted.  The new one is seriously limited in terms of upgrade options but the Thunderbolt 2 connections help with that with a couple of 20TB TB2 storage units, I have a lot of storage :)

I'm going to have a bit of a looksee on the bike today about where I might be able to mount the camera

You can buy a Garmin to GoPro adapter for a fiver from FleaBay. 3d printed in Germany, no less! Item no. 172057251706

A *couple* of 20TB ThunderBolt 2 storage units? Ok, enough now, you're making me drool!

Is all this processing power and storage for professional use, or just desktop toys?

I have some connectors, but I dont like adding too many links as this introducing vibration. Also cant stand helmet mounted ones either, so that limits my options.

I think I'll just go back to basics, the Drift I used to have was pretty good as it had a rotating lens, so you had many mounting options.
I might just get a Innovv, accept the lower quality but it'll be a permanent fixture and always on.

I used to do a lot of photography stuff and my stills amounted to over 4BTb's of data, I've cut it back a lot but have tons of offline movies / TV for my plex media system.  I'm paranoid about data integrity so also have a NAS and store a couple of storage units offsite  too:)
