Anybody had anything to do with these? Been looking at figures and performance wise there's not a lot in it. One advantage is the SX is 90kg lighter  that's a whole person. Disadvantage is a chain.
As I said anybody got any input?

Great bike for a single person but rear bum perch leaves is more like a sport bike. Have a look at the Versys, if the Versys had a shaft I would buy one tomorrow.

:agree:  its marketed as a touring capable bike, but I think its only suitable for a rider without pillion. Also you cannot fit panniers and top box together its one or the other

Versys 1000 is a far better option,.....I  now own one of these, and if you can get your head around chain drive then its a stunning option to the GTR

TBH  chains are massively better than they used to be and squirting them every so often really isnt a hardship.  Adjustment is now a rare exercise.

I've just noticed it's an either or with the top box panniers. Hadn't thought about a Versys. To be honest it's the weight differential is swinging it for me.

I changed from a GTR to an SX 2 years ago because i had a Knee issue and the GTR was 305kg and the SX 230kg. I was lucky enough to have corrective surgery and my Knee is now good as New hence my return to the GTR. i would have kept the SX no problem if i could have fitted a Top box as well as the panniers but as stated you can't have both together. Believe me the SX is an awesome bike and THB it will leave the GTR for Dead its a very quick and capable bike a true all rounder. It can scratch with the power rangers and tour with the bigger boys, i really liked the SX, having said that it's no GTR.

Negatives

Seat is not the best quite Hard until bedded in, then only good for most 150 miles.
Maximum 45 MPG being careful
limited storage space and awkward pannier design ( exactly same panniers as Versys )
Chain Drive

Positives

Lots of power goes like a scalded cat
3 selectable power modes
Reasonable New purchase price
Holds good residual value
Adjustable screen
Looks Good
Mega Grin Factor

Depending on your tastes i would go for the SX against a Versys, having said that i am Biased because i have only ridden a Versys Once and it was not my style of Bike. The versys is a tall bike ( 840mm - 25mm taller than the SX ) and i did not feel as though i was balanced on it at a standstill more tip toe than flat foot, but Horses for Courses.
get a grip and deal with it

Versys 250kg. GTR 304kg. That difference is about 8.5 stone

Not so, sorry Paul, check the official site, with link below

GTR 313 Kg  which is 63Kg heavier than Versys 1000 = 138.6 pounds = 9.9 stones

or about 10. stones

Fair do's Roger, my apologies, I sit corrected

I was going to say "What's a stone and a half between friends..." but if I lost a stone and a half I'd be rather happy!

(btw, I'm going to blame Google. If you type "GTR1400 wet weight" it tells lies dammit!)

Cheers

no problem Paul,

I  can confirm that the weight difference of the Versts is remarkable

I still absolutely loved my GTR though

I had a z1000 as a loan bike , couldn't wait to give it back , felt vunerable and not very stable in a cross wind . Decent motor though
