Hello all.
Has anybody fitted progressive springs to their GTR. My forks are out this weekend and wondered if progressive is the way to go.My driving style is fast touring mainly and bike has done 42 000 miles. Also planning to use 5w oil as standard. I am 6ft 3in and a massive 17 stone.
Any brands of sting to recommend or avoid.
Any ideas cheers ozzmotor.

Hi Oz ..just a pointer ..there is NO industry standard in hydrous fork oil .. each manufacturer is different .
Progressive springs are a bit of a muchness ..hit and miss.
Ya best plan is send em off for a revalve and resorting ..then get ya sussys set up by a pro ..or if ya competent and it's sounds you are set up ya sag etc ta self
Remember the the damping is shite new springs only make it worse
Hope this helps

P's ..17 stone ain't massive ..ya just too short for ya weight  :mfr_lol:

O.C.

ozz, like wook says, take your bike to a specialist like this place

http://ftrsuspension.co.uk

Or Maxton

If you fancy taking on the job yourself then you might find a set up suitable for you here

http://calsport.co.uk  .........  this company sell Hyperpro wquipment which is good.

There are lots of suspension specialists out there who will do a great job for you.  Costs can be fairly high

Whatever you decide, keep us informed

17 stone? Lightweight!  :mfr_lol:
I'm 6'4" & 26Stone and 72k miles on stock suspension.
If yer rich buy Ohlins. Yer looking at nearly 3grand for both forks and a shock.
Otherwise I've not heard of anyone modifying the stockers, here or in the US.

Pfft 'massive'   My left leg weighs that much. 6'4" here too, but a rather sylph like 24 stone..!!

Firstly, if it aint broke why fix it?  new oil, springs a some tlc maybe but change something thats clearly worked well for 42k ?

I cant vouch for the progressives on the GTR but I had my ZZR done by FTR in Bury St Edmunds.  15miles away from MCT, the other company often referred to.  The roads in UK are crap and progressives for me absorbed the holes in the road better.  If the road surface is predictable and good then probably Linear springs would be fine.

I hope the test the GTR with the other half in a couple of weeks up in Colchester so I can see for myself.

Just my tuppence worth.

I fitted progressive springs to my previous bike which was a Goldwing.
It stiffened the forks up quite a bit.
Not sure what benefit it would make to the GTR unless your springs are wearing.
Have a chat with Hagons in Hainault, Essex. They're the manufacturers of progressive springs and would certainly be my first port of call.

Someone brought that up in our forum ages ago but I don't remember where it went.  Obviously nowhere as it's something not contemplated at all.  It may be that they are progressive already.  I'll take a look and see what I dredge up.

Hopefully you can get to these...
