Thanks for the info, I have a gallon of deionised water plus a gallon of engine ice coolant, I intend to flush th system truth first with normal water, then use the deionised water to secondary flush before filling very slowly with the engine ice coolant.

Well that's the plan anyway.

Alan

Sounds like a plan....good luck, hope it all goes fluidly  :mfr_lol:  :mfr_lol:

Hello everybody. About one Month ago I bought My GTR 1400 (year 2008). I have changed everything but now I would like the Coolant too. I dont know how can I start the Job. Frist I bulit off the left side of My GTR. Now I see the  surge tank but I dont know where can let down the old Coolant from the motor and from the radiator...etc. I hope you can help me becuse it seem to this is a little bit different.. Sorry My english  :(

BigAlan

I have just done mine.

On the lower left of the bike where you can see the radiator pipes go is the water pump, big round alloy thing, the drain plug is at the bottom, be careful as if you have the radiator cap off it will rush out fast as mine did.

Somewhere on here is the workshop manual but if you can't find it let me know your email address and I will send you a copy.

Today I duilt off some side panel from My bike. But I think that I have off more because I dont see the water pump. Maybe I have to bulit off the black plastic from the bottom. There Will be the water pump. And where is the radiator cap? On the right side? And first I have to off the drain plug of the botton After this the radiator?

BigAlan

Yes lower black plastic on the left side has to come off, don't forget the two screws inside the plastic bit (Philips head) and you will see the radiator pipes going to the pump, radiator cap is on the right upper sid so that fairing has to come off as well.

It might look daunting but in reality once you have done it you realise it's easy.

Today I changed the coolant my GTR. First I screw in the bolt the bottom of the water pump after this I filled in the coolant to the radiator. I filled the radiator full. After I filled coolant on the other side in to the surge tank among to min - max. I have started the engine and waiting. Everything was ok, the ventilator worked and the tempreatura was high but didn't happend nothing in the surge tank. I don't know that the termostat opened or did not. The level in the surge tank is same... What do you think? This is normal or not?

BigAlan

Sounds like it's fine to me, when I did mine I ran the engine until it was hot then switched off, I left it overnight and the next day when it was cold I undid the radiator cap and it was still full, the expansion tank was at the right level so that was fine.

I have done in excess of 500 miles since and all is exactly how it should be.

Thank you for your help. Today I filled in about 0,5 dcl coolant. Tomorrow I will go to test :)

That's mixed with deionised water, the stuff I am on about has no water content at all therefore does not boil.

Something like

I saw an episode of wheeler dealers were ed china used the waterless coolant , like you said it does not boil at 100c ,he swore by it saying it was a good product ,I would have thought it would run the engine cooler aswell .
But you have to prepare the engine first to clean out all the water. I know race teams use it and there is a lot lower pressure involved.
